What RAM are you getting/bought for Ryzen

I'm replacing my Xeon server, as it's time to move to something a little newer.

I was going to go with a 1700, but have 2 1700x processors here, so just going to use one of them.

The question is RAM. I'm hoping for at least 32GB, and intially was going to get 2 x 8GB sticks in the meantime - just to get it up and running. Based on pricing, it seems getting 2 x 16GB sticks is a solid price with room for expansion beyond 32GB later. I'm not against getting 4x4GB sticks and just calling it day.

I'm most looking for the cheapest, as chances are running 4-sticks means forced lower speed. I'm just gettting a basic X370 motherboard.

Soooo, any help on which RAM is best on OCUK.

The consensus for Ryzen is to get the fastest supported memory you can. The infinity fabric interconnect is directly related to the memory speed so faster ram results in faster CPU performance. 8Pack on this forum has often said that 200mhz faster memory is like a 200mhz CPU overclock. Saying that the corsair 3200mhz isnt on the officially supported list for taichi at the moment so there is no guarantee it is tested working: http://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/X370 Taichi/index.us.asp#Memory

Would there be any issues between stepping up to a 2x16 of the same spec compared to the 2x8? I'm think that with it being dual channel and a year down the line or so, I'd probably have to upgrade from 16 to 32gb anyway, making the original 2x16 redundant if I went for that to start with.

There aren't any 32GB memory kits in the asrock supported memory list yet. It would be a guess at the moment I think until more people start getting the motherboards and testing them. I expect it would work fine.
 
Ok, so if i am to purchase a board now what is the best option and will it work now with ECC ram or is this something that needs to be implimented.

Using Crucial 4*8GB 2133 as I had it going spare but have ordered a set of G.Skill 3200Mhz 2*8GB CL14. If it works ok I will probably add a second 16GB latter.
 
Been looking at the gskill ripjaws v but dont know which one to get, theres a £15 between the 3000mhz cl14 and cl15. Could the cl14 be better branded ram like samsung and be single rank? Therefore overclocking better on Ryzen? Or will will they just have been binned differently?

I'm pretty sure they will be Hynix, as the G.Skill 3200 14-14-14 @ 1.35V and up are normally Samsung B-Die.

As these are meant to run Samsung B-Die, I'll be able to confirm the 3600 (Memory Module) when mine arrives shortly. I know the C16 G.Skill 3200 Mhz is Hynix based.

i have been looking at those but but seem a bit pricey, i think i may just have to suck it up and go with the g skill 3600, a few week from now i will have forgotten about the expense
