What Restaurant did you eat at last night?

Had steak and frites at a restaurant called Browns, in Windsor. Missus had some fish cakes.
Was ok, had chocolate fondant for dessert too, but it was cooked in the middle, a little disappointed.

Went to Opheem last Friday for 10 course tasing lunch. It was excellent in every way.

Plus £150 credit on Amex Platinum which is useful.

We were booked to go there a few weeks back but had to cancel a few days before. This is my reminder to get us booked in again,.

Yeah definitely make sure you go. There was one course which was a bit meh but I think that's because I can't stand the main ingredient in any situation but the sauce was incredible.

Aktar was there plating and also serving having a chat with people which was great.

Just got back from a nice boozy lunch at Chez Bruce. Haven’t been for about 5 years. Food was ok plus rather than great (it used to be great), wine was expensive but excellent. Beat the Wimbledon traffic on the way home too. Hiphiphooray for boozy lunches on a saturday!

Got ourselves booked in late July for dinner (finally!). Can’t wait!

Edit - had a real treat for dinner on Friday pre-theatre. Wu Shuang Cafe in Birmingham Chinatown. Great food, really authentic, super friendly staff and rapid service. Felt like we had temporarily travelled out of Birmingham. 2 minute walk to the theatre too! Definitely need to explore Chinatown more!

This was our first visit to Hawksmoor in Manchester and this was a 5 star experience.

We went for starters and a main with the me and my wife enjoying the Sunday roast while the boys went for steak. Safe to say no room for desert given the very generous portions. All the food was presented extremely well, cooked well and you could take a sense of pride from the serving team.

The restaurant was relatively busy and a real good ambience and the service was knowledgeable and attentive. Never in your face every five minutes to see if we were enjoying our food, everything was just at the right time.

The menu as well as having Sunday Lunch had a wider selection of steaks and items from the grill. The best compliment I can give Hawksmoor was it was good honest food, cooked extremely well.

I'm a huge fan of Hawksmoor, it's my preferred place to get a steak in the UK. Their triple cooked chips (or beef dripping chips as they're now called) are spectacular. A portion of them with a huge steak and a blue cheese hollandaise sauce is my go to. Delicious.

A big weekend for us - the missus's birthday. Saturday we went to The Fat Duck, our second visit (my third) and it's as faultless as I remember it. Better if anything.

On Sunday we went to The Loch & Tyne which was fantastic. We've eaten at Adam Handling's London restaurant, Frog a few times so we knew what to expect. It didn't disappoint. I was glad when the food stopped though, I was full to the point of being uncomfortable but that's my fault as we shared 3 snacks and then had a rich 3 course lunch. Lovely.

Ate at Turaa in Melbourne (Derbyshire) the other day. It's our local and just walked down last minute, not been for a while. It was always pretty good but a bit spendy.

They've really upped their game now, food, presentation, service is all top drawer. Maybe a bit too keen on the dry ice! Had a lamb shank curry which was incredible. Other half had an aubergine based curry that was very good.

Will be going back more often for sure, it'll be getting Michelin attention soon, deserves a bib gourmand.

Nearly ate at the Canary Wharf Hawksmoor last week, but managed to get into Six by Nico.

Next stay we plan to visit, or visit one of the other London restaurants to enjoy that brunch they do.

Boon Nam in Helsinki.

Pricey, but rather excellent. Bangs of flavour and spice with some Finnish twists. Went for the full tasting menu and wine flight, we were in there for three hours!

Slight issue with the bill (2 glasses of wine added in error) but dealt with immediately by removing and giving us the wine as well.

Not last night per se but in the past 10 days I have been to Dishoom twice. Last week I went to Dishoom Battersea with some work colleagues and the week before Dishoom Birmingham. The food is quite good with a wide selection of small dishes which makes it easy for groups to cater for most tastes. Really enjoyed the Mutton Pepper Fry, which was a stand out dish for all who came with us. All the food was very well cooked and tasty with generous portions. What was a little off putting as with the Birmingham one especially, they really try too hard to make it cool and 'authentic' to the point it's just not cool or authentic. Also the service in the Birmingham one was not amazing in comparison to Battersea.

Would score both experiences a 6.5 / 10.

@Loki - I thought Dishoom in Manchester was a little better than a 6.5, but agree that you need to take the authenticity with a pinch of salt. If I wasn’t limited to places within walking distance I’d have headed to Rusholme like a shot! In Birmingham especially we’ve got so so many amazing Asian restaurants for similar money to Dishoom, I’m not likely to be rushing to the one here.

Dishoom knocks the socks off anything in Rusholme!

Went to a turkish steak house, Etci. Its in Star city on the A38, party of 10 many of whom werent steak lovers:p Steaks were spot on, prices not bad for the quality, rest of the food was way over priced and very minimal in size. Would like to try it again just me and the mrs, deffo rated the porterhouse and filet mignon.

Got Opheem and Dishoom on the list at the moment, and theres a place called Kisaan in walsall that was recommended to me a while back. Im asian so rarely go out for standard curry in brum. Im a bit of fan of Afghan food, but most of the restaurants are fairly run down, food is spot on though.

Mughli Charcoal Pit would be my choice every time I’m afraid! Not too dissimilar menus either.

Not saying Dishoom is bad, just not as authentic.
It's great that we're getting more authentic Indian food in Manchester now, however most of the places in Rusholme are BIR rubbish. I agree Mughli is good.
Indian Tiffin Room on First Street is great and I think one of the first to really do authentic Indian food successfully here at their venue in Cheadle many years ago, although the prices have gone up a lot. You now see so many copycats doing Maharashtrian street food like Pani Puri, Bhel Puri, Keema Pav, Vada Pav and South Indian Food with varying levels of quality.
Sigiriya in Hale is great for Sri Lankan although pricey and a bit too trendy.
