But most importantly, did you get a Shaky Pete to start? The best compliment I can give Hawksmoor was it was good honest food, cooked extremely well.
I like the food and vibe at the London Dishoom's I've been to but I can't stand their faux-queuing system. I used to walk past the Covent Garden one every evening and there was always a queue of 30+ people outside. I've been before, been told to wait, and got into a half-empty restaurant. I've also been at totally random times like 4pm on a Sunday and told there was a 40mins waitNot saying Dishoom is bad, just not as authentic.
Had lunch at Alchemilla last week for our anniversary.
It was very good. I can't help but compare it to Sat Bains though and it just isn't as good. Which is perhaps unfair as Alchemilla is very good, but the overall experience, service, ambience, flavours and everything is just that notch better at SB, and there's not a huge amount of difference in price.
Bit of a trip report for Copenhagen. Took the wife over to Copenhagen for the Xmas markets this weekend and it was a delightful experience. If you love seafood then Copenhagen has to be on your bucket list. A city steeped in history anyway onto the food.
Warpigs Microbrewery and Texas BBQ - Copenhagen
One of the places we was recommended going to was Warpigs Micro Brewery and Texas BBQ, This hidden gem is just on the outskirts of the main shopping district and Tivoli gardens. If you like BBQ cooked by honest chef's who really really know their craft then this is a must visit place if you goto Copenhagen. Located on an industrial estate its a big old building with a walk in policy. Tables can only be booked for parties of 6 or more. The opening times are good with the doors opening up at around 12.00am till around 24.00 weekdays and 02:00 at weekends.
As you would expect it has a real hipster vibe and on show was some of the finest moustaches in CopenhagenI went for the mixed plate which had Pulled Pork, Brisket, Texas Hotlinks and some wings served with a choice of two sides from the house potato salad, Texas Beans, Macaroni Cheese and the House Coleslaw. Mrs L went for the Pulled pork Brioche along with potato salad and 1/4lb of Brisket.
The food was extremely well cooked and have to say as good (and in most cases better) than any Texas BBQ I have had in the UK. Smoky, tasty, rich in flavour, well cooked, well presented. It looks like the menu is pretty consistent but once it's gone, it's gone. Warpigs has a really outstanding selection of Beers and IPA's (Safe to Say the Dane's love their strong Ale) The venue is authentic service is great. Also a very honourable mention to their curated Spotify Play list, perfect for the venue and the vibe
Given the prices in some of the restaurants in Copenhagen, we was surprised at how good value it was. A little bit of a trek depending on where you are staying but me and the Mrs L love walking. Two very good portions of well cooked food and a few beers for just under £50.
Easy give this place and our experience 9/10
Anyway, the reason why I found this thread again is that we finally got to Upstairs by Tom Shepherd last Saturday night. I say finally as we'd booked 13 months ago. Wanting a table for six didn't help but speaking to the staff whilst there, they are fully booked for the rest of the year.
Superb meal from start to finish. The Discovery wine flight was top notch as well. Highly recommended.
I've been trying for ages to get a table there. I'll keep trying.
The person who booked our table was waiting on the release day / hour / minute and we still had to wait 13 months!
If you're not local, the Premier Inn in Lichfield is a few minutes walk away and makes for a good base.
When do they open reservations? Unless I'm missing it, they don't actually say.
Ahh man I only found out about the Reffen street food market on our last day. Deffo one to add to the list for future visit.Just saw your review @Loki. We went to Warpigs whilst in Copenhagen in September last year and would agree it was excellent. Did you find The Taphouse during your trip? 61 different beers on draught
We thought Copenhagen was a great place. All the attractions of a capital city (bars, food, museums, sightseeing etc) but it didn't feel utterly manic and clogged with traffic. All quiet chilled and relaxed. I would also agree it's not the cheapest place to visit though. We had a branch of the Lagkagehuset bakery near our appartment (Adina aparthotel - excellent BTW)
The Reffen Street Food Market finished for the season on our last night, so we got the water bus over there for our tea. Great to have so much choice of different foods from around the world, washed down with a few more IPAs. It started to a get a little chilly later on, so the open fire pits were very popular.
I think we got the penultimate water bus back across the river which made for a scenic photo

Wow, that's weird. With my job my territory is UK and Nordics. I find the Fin's pretty Stoic and matter of fact while the Dane's were pretty ready for partying. On our first night we had a meal then went onto the Scottish pub at Nyhavn because they had live music on every night. Quite a few Dane's in there and were all up for a sing song. Got Iceland and Finland to cross off the bucket list from Nordics to get a full houseWasn't a fan of Copenhagen myself I went to the strange section forgot the name, partly my fault as they live in an alternative universe? I had my camera out again I admit my fault but someone from there grabbed it and I pushed him and told him to do one. They don't allow filming which is fine but don't grab my stuff just tell me?
I found the people cold (Whilst I find people from Finland shy but very friendly) there isn't to much to see, ye the houses of parliament building was stunning inside and Nyhavn was nice down by the harbour.
The food scene was great though I remember going to this dessert pie / cake place I had apple pie and cream and something chocolate I think it was so good.
I can't remember what else I had as it was a while ago, I think that Warpigs I never went in but went past it looked very busy.
