What sort of Mileage is it worthwhile getting a Diesel?

Got contradiction? So every month you run out of money prior to your payday yet you still think financing £10k worth of Focus is a great idea?

By about 3 days.. I dont run out of money.. I sift £20/30 into my overdraft.. wow.. who doesn't do that?

...
Anyway...

Again, I thank all for advice, Scuzi especially, constructive stuff, and I have listened to what you have said dont go away thinking it hasnt been listened to... because it has.

Again, Fox as usual you've been cruel and kind..

I appriciate what you have all been trying to say... i'm going to sit down with my parents and discuss everything before I comit to everything...

Again, Thanks :)

Hey there,

My advice would be to get something like an older Focus/Mondeo. Not much will go wrong, if it does it will be pennies, so you wont need a warranty. Then spend a year paying off your car loan and saving some money. Then buy a decent car when you're a bit older, earning a bit more and have more NCB.

Screwing yourself to the wall financially like you are at the moment is a recipe for disaster.

West.

Your insane wanting to spend that much money when, if I remember correctly, your on quite a low salary.

Im on, ok, money for where I live, and I have recently bought myself an S2000 (if November is recent). This cost me just over £11,000 from a dealer, but most importantly, its monthly costs are a very small proportion of my income.

I think that unless your buying something special, you will hate a 'crappy' 10k focus. just like you hate your mini for costing you all your income.

Do yourself a favour, and get something like a 1.8 3 door focus collection with the mesh front and rear bumper. really nice look, and about 4k to buy.

or. buy a 500 quid citroen ax 1.5 diesel, pay off all your debts, save up loads of cash and buy something without finance.

14k isnt that low, considering I live at home :)

I'm looking around for an older shape Focus as well.. i've said it time and again.. I AM LOOKING around..

14k, after deductions is at best what, 900-1k a month?

if your paying 250 ish a month on finance, that means you have hardly anything left after fuel, servicing, insurance, maintenance.... let alone actually going out and doing stuff !

I average about £1,200 a month :)

14k salary does not bring you home £1200 a month!

It does when you do overtime.. :p

No one but me really does it lol..

Every month theres a minimum of 1 Extra shift a week I can do... I occasionally do more, but if i'd doing something or just dont want to come in i'll stay at home, but I average about that.

quite.

'back in the day' when I was on 13200 ish I was bringing home about 968 quid or something equally random.

1200 take home I would guess is closer to 16-17k?
Yeah that's about right.

Christ, how much overtime do you do to take home an extra £250 odd a month!?

1 or 2 Shifts a week.. I only work 3 or 4 days a week depending what shift pattern i'm in.

Adds up normally to about 60-70 Hours extra a month..

it's surely down to his overtime rate, I know if I work 1 saturday a month I take more than that... pre tax mind... some overtime rates are truely insane

Our place, we get paid for 40 Hours, but in effect we only work about 34.

Anything after that 40 Hours, so in essense after you've done an extra 6 Hours, you're paid at double time which is about £14 an hour.

Edit: at the same time the tax man beds you over good.

No helping as i said. Complete waste of time.

Doesnt bother me, if you dont want to listen to anyone thats fine, but does it not make you wonder how people your age are driving 6-8 Cylinder prestige cars yet still dont earn huge amounts?

PLEASE listen to the advice or you will be stuck with no money living at home with your mum and driving a basic mini forever, it applies to all walks of life, you seem to be the kind of person who will always waste money and do things in the most expensive way possible. You cant afford to do that on £1200 per month.
