What sort of Mileage is it worthwhile getting a Diesel?

No helping as i said. Complete waste of time.

Doesnt bother me, if you dont want to listen to anyone thats fine, but does it not make you wonder how people your age are driving 6-8 Cylinder prestige cars yet still dont earn huge amounts?

PLEASE listen to the advice or you will be stuck with no money living at home with your mum and driving a basic mini forever, it applies to all walks of life, you seem to be the kind of person who will always waste money and do things in the most expensive way possible. You cant afford to do that on £1200 per month.

If you're not willing to help why even post.

I have tried to help, try reading the thread sunshine. We just go round in circles, west seems like a nice bloke, i just WISH he would bloody listen.

I have read the thread "sunshine"

You're just churning out what other people have already told him, I think he gets the picture now.

You can trot off on your high horse now. :)

West - considering what you earn and the fact that you live at home, you clearly cant afford a 10k car. It really is a bad idea.

Get a 2-3k loan to pay off over one year. With that, buy a 2-3k car. Keep it for that year. You will, at the end of the year, at least have some positive equity. Buy something cheap to run and insure and endure motoring for that year.

I didn't run my own car until I was 21 simply because I couldn't afford it. I never let myself get into debt to own a car, and because of this, 18 months after I started running my own car, I could fully pay for a 03 530d Sport. Ok, my earnings may be higher, but the principal is still the same.

Buying a car from a dealer doesn't always mean a great car - your car proves this. Buy privately and buy carefully and you'll end up with a much better car for your money.

I am re-iterating what i was the first to say, that its a waste of time as he already knows whats best for him, but wont ever take the advice. Its sad to see but at the end of the day there isnt anything we can do. I can only wish him the best of luck in what he decides to, whether its what i would consider the right option or not.

No horses involved, your reply was simply retarded and thus deserved a retared reply.

Tom does have a valid point though Jez, it has made me think a bit at least.. consider everything, all the implications. I'm going to be taking time to think about, and once I have figures for what I WANT, i'll see what else there is open to me... and see what I think is going to be best, as I said to Scuzi, the advise I have read, it hasn't fell on dead ears. :)

Glad to hear it! I dont mean to sound rude, i just wish you would take the damn advice and end up better off for it :)

I don't actually think the thread was ever about his current finance situation.

The title is this thread is:

"What sort of Mileage is it worthwhile getting a Diesel?"

I believe the thread has served its purpose long ago but it seems to have over run with the usual people eager to get a dig in and wave about their "awesomeness" and think they have a lesson to teach West.

Yet again a thread goes off topic and the finance gurus of OcUK Motors have managed to turn it into a personal bitching session on West about his handling of his finances.

Hey there,
My advice would be to get something like an older Focus/Mondeo. Not much will go wrong, if it does it will be pennies, so you wont need a warranty.

West this is a good idea. Only things to go wrong with my Focus were the VSS which is a common fault and cheapish fix at £60, nothing else has gone wrong. I've owned the car for almost a year and a half now.

You could sell the Mini and pick up a nice Focus for 4k and pocket the rest of the cash :)

The last line in his first post reads

"Would you all say this is Diesel territory on the Fuel Usage?"

If everyone had just directly answered his question with no other input it would have been a thread full of replies consisting of little more than

"Yes"
or
"No"

Would that have been better than this thread? I don't think it would.

A discussion doesn't always stay within the boundaries of the first sentence uttered. There were replies to West's original question to which he has responded to.
