What time do you turn up for work?

No official start time really, core hours are 10am-4pm but generally expected start time is 9am.

Most days I'm in by 8.45, sometimes I might be as late as 9.30 though

I use to work in a place where people would turn up just before, chat with other colleagues and as soon as it is work time, get up to make some tea or coffee. I personally cant work like that and see little point. If i had a routine of waiting until i start work to procrastinate, i wouldn't get out of that mentality until noon.

Yeah last place I worked a guy used to turn up on time then go for a 10 minute bog break:eek:

Just before by the time I've got changed out of my bike kit.

Start at 0830 normally in the building at 0800 and sat at my desk around 0815.

I don't have defined hours so either early or late are really meaningless concepts. I also work from home a fair bit, and travel a fair bit, which makes them even less relevant.

When I do go the office, it's typically either well before or well after everybody else. I pretend it's to keep them on their toes, never knowing when or sometime even if I'm going to show up. In fact, it's mainly because I utterly detest travelling in rush hour, so I either get in ahead of it or wait for it to finish.

EDIT. Looking at those initial options again, maybe a technically accurate answer is 'bang on time'. As I have neither defined hours, nor start/stop times, I guess I start whenever I want to, which is whenever I actually start. So by definition, it's always absolutely bang on time, in a way.

starts at 9:30, turn up at 9:15 ish, change from cycling gear, set my lappy up and all that.. make a brew and off we go

As I commute Birmingham > Derby.

Start time is officially 9AM, but I get in at 9:20AM, works best for me commuting rather than being stupidly early with no work and plus I normally work through lunch (eat at my desk) so I'm not taking the mickey.

I don't really have an official start time, but I tend to be in about 20-30 minutes before as I prefer being early. I hate being late (not just for work, but for meetings, or events, or seeing friends!). I just crack on, and stop to chat as and when the day takes me that way, there isn't really a routine other than the routine at home to get me to work/prepare food etc...

I tend to arrive at work 15 minutes early, but that is very traffic dependent, usually go to the toilet and make a brew and am checking my emails 5 minutes before I'm supposed to start. i simply cannot predict the traffic though so if i leave any later and hit traffic I'm screwed.

I have flexi time, so if my times down (by down I mean +10hrs) I will turn up early and clock in helping me build time. If it's up (20+hrs, like it is atm) I'll turn in 5mins late just to keep it in check. If I'm over 20hrs by the end of the month they just remove the excess time. So I have to lose it some where.

I don't understand why people feel the need to turn up early to have a brew... you can have a brew at any time during the working day.... no reason why they can't turn up at their exact starting time and have a brew (assuming they work in an office job).

This really, and as an external contractor, no one on site has a clue what my working hours are. My boss is very much of the opinion that as long as the work is done it doesn't matter. This does mean the odd 6am to 7pm solid day, but that's rare and I'm often home before my official clocking out time

Normally around 45 mins early, as get paid for any extra time worked anyway - my Wife normally is getting ready to take the kids to School as well, and don't see much value in sitting at home for 30 minutes on my own.

When cycling normally I'm normally at work just before I need to be (after accounting for getting changed etc), as prefer to do a couple of extra miles cycling (despite leaving around the same time I would in the car)

I start at 9 and I'm usually in by 8:40. It would be 8:59 but I've got to have my daughter in nursery by 8:30 so I just go straight in, grab a brew and have a flick through the previous nights emails.

Between 30 mins early and 30 mins late depending on traffic. I "love" the days where I get to sit in traffic for 2 hours because it means I get to work through my lunch as well :) Of course on the days i'm early it doesn't mean i get to leave early! Can't wait till the imminent office move which will increase my commute (and amount of traffic I encounter) further!

Way early .. always have. Started when I was working in Reading and living in Andover and needed to be in by 08:00. A single issue on one of my two trains would extend my commute by 30mins so used to get in for 07:00 most days. This would be good as it meant most issues could be fixed before the online day started at 08:00.

Now I tend to be in for 06:30 if I'm in the office (or 07:30 if working from home). Technically I am supported to work 08:00-16:00 but I tend to do 06:30 to 15:45 which is all right with my management.

I prefer coming in early ... means I can get a lot done prior to starting to be interrupted by other things ...

If i start at 6am i'll clock in for 5.55am but won't actually start for half hour, for the first half hour i talk, have a cuppa, get changed and then start.

Officially start at 8am, usually here bang on 8 and get started straight away. I don't really have time to procrastinate due to my work load, so getting here on time works best. If my commute wasn't so short (20 mins) and predictable then I'd probably aim to be here 10 minutes early or so

I try to be there before 9 simply so I can park. It's a nightmare lately. About 40 spaces for 80 staff. On average I'd say 8:45
