What to go for f you had £350ish

Reallllyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

So you shut down Windows explorer and all those pesky tasks like anti virus etc when you game? A 2600k/2700k/3770k will give you better framerates in games - enough to warrant buying one? Probably not, but it still gives better framerates.

I can turn hyperthreading on and off on my i7 and check for myself, however I don't need to. It's already been proved by many people that know much more than me that an i7 is in no way better than an i5 for gaming.

Yes it is, ask anyone here who's upgraded from an i5 to i7 about better fps in games. An i5 2500k for example will bottleneck an overclocked 7970 or 680. As for being proved, it's probably more about justification for purchasing an i5 rather than actually being proved.

So you can't prove anything and you are sprouting nonsense.
Go back to GD.

ARMA 2 likes speed not threads as stated yes it is suppose to use quad cores and it does kinda.

And hyperthreading in arma is a waste of time.

So I am still looking at i5 I cant afford an i7 any way

This would be a much better bundle; cheaper, more performance, future proof, Z77 chipset rather than the dated Z68. ;)[/url]

Future proof? There's no such thing when it comes to PC's these days ;). The Z77 doesn't offer much over a Z68 anyway, so go with whatever is cheaper. Haswell is not too far away now, so the 1155 platform is pretty much on it's last legs already! I doubt there will ever be a 6-core chip or any other major CPU updates for socket 1155.

You could OC the i5-3570K IB quite easily. It would still out perform the i5-2500k SB by a noticable margin.

You could OC an i5 2500K even further without running into high voltage and heat issues (i'm looking at you Ivy :p).

Performs maybe 2/3 fps better. That is within the margin of error and doesn't count. Well worth the extra £100 too.

And if you overclock the cpu and gpu the fps difference is more, more than would be in the margin of error. Didn't say it'd be worth it, just said it'd be better.

Shut up with your rubbish and stop posting if you are not going to try and help the OP.

Lol if facts are rubbish then so be it in your opinion, but i'd go away if I was you and learn something before you embarrass yourself further.

tbh I am all ways behind on the latest gear MONEYS :(.

So upgrading from me q6700 to an i5 or some thing especially if i do go for the i5 bundle thats clocked to 4.6 I will im sure be very happy.

Oh will me ATI 4890 1gb be a bottle neck in the bundle I looked at I am thinking yes but like i say arma 2 uses CPU more really just wondering though?

Going from the Q6700 to the i5 will be a massive leap, yes the 4890 will choke your performance, so overclock it as much as you can and then upgrade that when funds allow.

I like this one

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-036-CM

none direct contact heat pipes I have learnt me lesson from direct heat pipes not saying there all like it but since I got mine I have 10 diff between cores 0,1 and 2,3 I apped me CPU made no diff checked heatsink and its all over the place load of rubbish.

Direct contact pipes still have slight gaps between them unfortunately (in most cases). It's a bugger if the gaps end up being directly above a core or two... They just get filled with thermal paste anyway.

yeah I spread paste on first to fill the gaps then wipe access away.

Then applied paste to CPU and mounted it.

The problem with my heatsink is some cores stand higher then some others and prevent the heatpipe where the cores actually are from even touching correctly wish I had checked when I got the titan as I would have sent it back its rubbish.

I wont got for direct contact again tbh.

The bundle that I linked you should get you a better overclock than the one OcUK sells as the parts are all generally of better quality. Also, I would recommend you get a new CPU before you think about upgrading the GPU as either way you will be getting a bottleneck.

The only real difference is that Ivybridge tends to get rather hot when you start overclocking. You could get a cheaper bundle than the one I linked if you got cheaper RAM and a cheaper motherboard.

ah thanks well I need to get the money first but I am going to upgrade ASAP.

I would never pucrhase a GPU till I got me new CPU setup I know I would be wating my money tbh as like I said ARMA really likes CPU speed rather than GPU.
