What to upgrade?

heres the screenshot after a few mins with prime95

Oh dear, thats to high.

Looks like you need to improve the CPU cooler and case air flow first.

Can you get a pic up of the CPU cooler you are using? and what case do you have? any fans fitted to it?

Windows 7 or a new graphics card. ATI6950, 7950 vs gtx570/580.
CPU coolers aren't that expensive, the Noctua D-14 is keeping my i7 930 at 55C full load with an overclock from 2.8ghz to 3.8ghz.
I'd say it's the best air cooler out there!

thats my case, i have 2 fans fitted to the side of the case, the rear fan isnt working, i cant find where the cable goes to , it kidna goes behind the sound card, then dissapears.. :S Ive cleaned it for dust again, altho theres some still in there dunno how to get it all out. but fans are prettty clear of dust.

My graphics card runs pretty low temp i think

Can you remove that competitor link please.

I dont know why that Titan Fenrir isnt doing a better job, did you fit it correctly?

Is there thermal paste between the CPU and the base of the Fenrir?

Did you apply to much which can be as bad as none at all?

removed it sorry, couldnt find it otherwise, i didnt build my pc, i bought it prebuilt from overclockers. So im not sure on that.

is it easy to remove and check those things?

How competent are you with fiddling with stuff?

Might be worth buying some new thermal paste (MX-4 for example) and a cleaning solution.

• Then pulling the two spring clips of the Titan Fenrir that holds the fan to the body.
• Remove the fan which gives you full access to the knurled nuts (4 of) and undoing them.
• Pull the body of the heatsink of with the "H" shaped plate.
• Clean both surfaces of old dried up paste.
• Apply a rice grain-pea sized blob in the center of the CPU surface (or maybe a thin line across the surface as the Titan Fenrir has direct contact heatpipies in its base)
• Refit the Titan Fenrir body and tighten down the four nuts and let the force of this pressure spread the paste about.
• Refit the fan etc and test again.

It's really easy, make sure you run the pc before trying to remove the cooler as this helps lossen it up. Also get some TIM remover and new TIM paste and your good to go.

i watched them videos you linked on youtube in a different thread on how to build a pc last night, which gave me a good idea. Il order some thermal paste and give this a go.

Do i need the TIM remover to get the old stuff off or isit doable without?

thank you. If i cant get this all sorted, im tempted with my £600-700 budget (being more specific now) just buy a loAd of new parts and build a pc myself in this case so i can learn how to do it myself, so i can learn and see how stuff actually works. Feel so clueless right now !

Not really mate, you really havent got anything wrong with your current CPU/RAm/Board, just need to extract the free performance from overclocking it.

Honestly, if I knew what you had was poor I would have said so, but its not and your money is better spent on a GFX improvement, or keeping most of it for the next big thing from Intel.

You don`t need to spend £600-700 to learn. Just remove everything and re-build it. Make sure you have mobo manual to hand. Also, whilst mobo is removed, reseat cooler and OC cpu. When everything is stable and you have achieved better temps., put it all back together.
You can also use Isopropyl alcohol, which you can get from your local chemist, to clean off old tim.

K got my paste this morning, removed, added the new stuff.. Now omg was the most annoying thing ever trying to put the cooler back on, the screws wouldnt lift enough to atatch to the plate etc I was scared i was ruining the paste i addeed, was a nightmare lol.

also there was loads of dust in the heatsink which ive cleaned.

Got it on though eventually, now my idle cpu twemps are in the 20's instead of late 30's , early 40's. So i run prime and my max temp hits 49
