What to upgrade?

coouldnt boot atall then, had to reset cmos or w/e it is. To get all my bios settings to how they were do i just select load default profiles or whatever it is? Gonna do it step by step now instead of trying straight for 4ghz lol what a dumb move by me.

Load defaults sets everything back to "out of the box" settings.

If you have a SSD/HDD and it was installed with the SATA controller set to AHCI instead of IDE then restoring defaults can switch it back to IDE and his will stop Windows loading, easily fixed by setting the option back to AHCI from IDE or visa versa.

k so im at 3ghz now, at 1.235voltage which is stock or around that. How do i know when to increase the voltage, basically when my pc doesnt boot right? Like if i increase to 3.4 ghz, doesnt boot, i need to add voltage?

When you run Prime95 (one of the workers stop) or Intelburntest and it fails, then you know to add a touch Vcore.

Remember the system is only stable if it can run Prime95 for like 8+ hours, Intel burntest can be set for say 20+ runs and takes much less time to complete so isnt as boring.

thats it so far

Well run Prime95 then for a few hours and see if the workers stop functioning weather it be 1 or more

If it passes, then you can save this BIOS setting in the BIOS and give it a name so its not lost should you have to reset the BIOS back to defaults, gives you a base to work from:)

3.4ghz now, but now when i try to go higher, save the bios, i keep blue screening before it boots windows.

edit - ok well 3.4ghz bluescreens after an hour of prime :(

ye it was, is that enough to not bottleneck with a 7970 card though?

also i tried 3.8ghz, i got to windows but after loading desktop pc kept restarting :( so ive gone back to old seetings, now i boot my pc, it loads fine except the extra sound of everything kicking in doesnt happen, just stays on the quiet inital startup sound.. if that makes sense? and theres like no lights on in the pc.

That wont Bottleneck a 7970, what lights in the PC are you missing? ones on the motherboard or something else?

Did you ever fiddle with any of the voltages to get the chip stable at slightly higher speeds? although overclocking does vary from CPU to CPU and board to board etc.

i find it hard to explain, im just used to the sound. Like i turn it on, lights come on in the pc, on the mother board etc, its a steady sound, then suddenly it usually kicks in and the sound gets loud like things geared up and and started running full go?

ye they come, usually when they go out, that different sound occurs.. but the sound isnt coming. just stays at the really dull sounding no power kinda sound

Probably the "phases LED's" which indicate how many VRM power phases the board is using at any given time, they usually come on in association with ,

Dynamic Energy Saver™ 2
Smart6™

Utilities, but as you are doing the overclocking manually they dont come on, I get similar behaviour from my gigabyte board.

so what do you think the prob is? to me it looks like the CPU cooler fan isnt spinning as fast, ie like the pc isnt kicking into some kind of turbo mode :| iios back to normal settings but still no luck . I dont get why its just suddenly started :s
