I didn't intend watching these, because... well, the world's messed up enough the moment; didn't need to give this kind of thing headspace. But I bumped into part of Surviving 9/11 and had to watch it from the start. Compelling documentaries, both of them. And a timely reminder that although so many terrible mistakes were made as a result of that day, it's impossible to underestimate the shockwaves that ran through the world as those towers fell. I don't think those shockwaves are over by a long, long shot.

I was visiting my mother on that day, and was sat at Macclesfield bus station waiting for the bus over the hills to Buxton. I turned my little radio on and had my 'where were you when JFK died' moment as I heard about the first impact. The second came in as I listened. There was a little old lady sat next to me and I told her it was going to be a bad day for a lot of people. She said it was a shame, but she'd just bought the last of her Christmas presents and was happy she could relax and enjoy the run up to Christmas without any pressure.
The world goes on. For most, anyway.
