What TV shows are you currently watching

I've never watched some of the "big" series, which should I start with?

Of those, I haven't watched Black Sails. And I'd add The Wire to the list ahead of all of them if you haven't seen it.

Game of Thrones is the best of those, although the final couple of seasons fell off some, I still think it stands as an absolute giant. Breaking Bad I thought was kinda rubbish and didn't make it through the first season. Peaky Blinders is shorter and less coherent than GoT, but the first few seasons are absolutely top notch.

I did finish One Piece, I liked it enough to finish it but not enough to really rate it. It was very anime, had lots of incredibly dumb things in it (incredibly the guy fighting with 3 swords is somehow the least out there part of it) I think if you can switch your mind off and just accept that increasingly stupid things happen then you'll enjoy it. It didn't help that the main character was ******* annoying too.
I found it quite enchanting. I was hooked and watched the last 6 episodes in one sitting. It felt like an older type Final Fantasy game but in live action. The casting was brilliant especially with the chef guy ! I do like fantasy and pirates though more than most other genres.

Can't go wrong with any of the first 3, haven't watched the last.

GOT goes off the rails a bit in the last few seasons when they weren't adapting books anymore.
Breaking Bad has a slow but solid start and seems to get better every season - one of the only shows with a 'perfect' rated 10/10 episode on IMDB - 'Ozymandias'
Peaky Blinders absolutely falls off after S3, really should have ended it earlier - last few seasons are a slog.
I'd also follow Breaking Bad with Better Call Saul, it's fantastic once it gets into its stride.

Just finished season 11 (final season) of the walking dead. Didn't particularly like the ending and the direction they have taken (multiple spin offs). I'm gonna miss the sense of community and characters.. especially the communities/ areas they established. Anything similar?

Already on season 4 of Fear the walking dead but its no-where near as good.

I really enjoyed FTWDs first few seasons - seeing the actual outbreak. If you didn't enjoy those, then stop now, it gets worse and worse, especially when we get the time jump to present day where TWD is and it becomes The Morgan Show - he ruined the show completely.

Don't forget:

The Walking Dead: World Beyond
Tales of The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead: Dead City
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live
More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe

:D

I really struggled with The Wire, to this day don't see what people see in it, while conversely I found Breaking Bad pretty good.

The Wire - tried an episode due to the hype. Could barely understand some actors and had no clue what was happening, which wasn't much. I may try again in the future due to the high regard The Wire is held in, but for now, it's a no from me.

BB is phenomenal, there is a fan edit which removes Skyler too (lol). Really enjoyed BCS too.

So was my wifes turn to choose a show for us to watch together, she went with The Mayfair Witches. Approached it with trepidation, i've read everything Anne Rice wrote a few times over so I thought I might be unfairly critical.

It's actually not bad, two episodes in and my memory of Lasher is hazy enough I only remember the broad strokes of the story.

I have to say the casting of Jack Huston as Lasher himself is a swing and a miss, doesn't work, he comes across like a creepy uncle you don't leave the kids with, rest of the cast is doing a decent job. Alexandra Daddario needs more scenes with cleavage exposing dresses however ;)

Game of Thrones
Breaking Bad
Peaky Blinders
Black Sails

cant go wrong with either Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad I cant decide which I prefer more, the other one I watched is Peaky Blinders first 2 season enjoyed it but it fell after that

if you enjoy Breaking bad as someone else mentioned would also try better call saul

I coupd get into game of thrones. Breaking bad had such good characters progression. Other than the short season eith writers strike it was excellent.

Whilst on the subject of hyped shows that people didn't get on with. I've got quite a few.

I tried the Wire back in 2008 or something like that. didn't get on with it. Saw about 5-7 episodes and BB and didn't find it great. Saw about 5 episodes of TWD and again didn't get the hype. Also having been interested in Game of Thrones.

Re-watched People Just do Nothing this past week.

It's a 9/10 show for me, and has so much re-watchability (I think this is the 3rd time i've watched it from beginning to end). I had already left London when this came out, so no idea really how big this show was in the UK but I would say it's the best Mockmumentary show after The Office (both versions).

Will watch Big in Japan (the movie follow up) this evening (for the 3rd time as well!).

I just watched Maxine, which is a dramatisation of the Soham murders where Ian Huntley killed two school girls in 2002. It was told from the perspective of his girlfriend Maxine Carr who covered up for him.

It wasn't the greatest dramatisation but that's not really relevant. I can't believe it is now 21 years since this happened. I remember it being all over the news and the urgent hunt for them before their bodies were found. Poor girls, Holly and Jessica. For quite a few years I would drive my children up to their grandmothers and we would go past Soham. I thought of them every time I drove past.

Just like Brassic I struggle to find people who've bothered watching this either :(
In terms of British comedies, the ones I can watch again and again are (in no particular order). Not so easy to find this content in Spain, so that's why there's nothing really new in the list!

1) The Office
2) People Just do Nothing
3) Life's Too short
4) Extras
5) Phone Shop
6) The I.T. Crowd

Based on that, is Brassic for me?

Hard call, I like about half of your list - i'd suggest checking out the first season trailer for Brassic, it'll immediately give you an idea of the tone and should be able to guess if you're going to gel with it from that. It's not out and out comedy, while a comedic tone it's definitely got some occasionally hard hitting real world themes running through it.

Someone else mentioned in this thread I think, it came about when Joe Gilgun was working on a movie set with Dominic West and telling him about his random stories and antics over the years. West liked it so much he threw in his influence and got a show greenlit off it - he even guest stars a fair bit throughout.

The Wire - tried an episode due to the hype. Could barely understand some actors and had no clue what was happening, which wasn't much.
The Wire definitely takes more than one episode to get into. I remember struggling to understand them at the beginning but once you get into it, it's brilliant. It's definitely a slow burn series though. I was surprised how much I rated it, never thought I'd get so invested in essentially a cops and criminals story. It's got some of the best anti-heroes ever committed to TV.

Love that show. I'm not far from Brentford so I've been around a lot of the places where they filmed it. I've got a pic in front of the towers :D Oh and I almost forgot;

Have you tried the Thick of It? That's unparalleled comedy writing as far as I'm concerned.
