What "unheard-of" bands do you like?

I dunno where Dogs Die In Hot Cars went. I saw them supporting the Ordinary Boys ages ago, but they seem to have disappeared a bit. I think they are still gigging.

Scarlet Soho are a band that I saw a couple of times in the Railway Inn in Winchester. Seriously good electronic pop sort of like the Bravery, but before it had a proper resurrection. If they had been new a couple of years later I think we would have seen a lot more of them.

I personally think that unless bands have material released which is accessable they arn't good enough to be worth my attention.....

not really a flame, but that seems a pretty stupid approach, to have material released on a large scale requires a lot of stages, it may be ages before they're spotted by the right label, even then it may be ages before a commercial release

Yep, by which time they will be far more professional and a better band, with better songs etc....

I'm not saying that all unsigned bands are rubbish at all, just that signed ones are generally far better :)

Unfortunately, many bands will have their sound so drastically altered in the production process that they lose what made them so good in the first place.

Also, a lot of successful bands are successful because they're designed to be - look at all the Strokes clones five years ago, all of the Killers/Bravery clones about two years ago, and all the Libertines/Arctic Monkeys clones coming out at the moment. They fit nicely into a mould, which is fine if you're happy to only listen to what you're force-fed, but not if you're a more discerning listener.

The reason I dispise those bands is because they never went through the struggling to get signed period. Nothing to develop a unique sound, were around I think a year before they brought out an album (The bravery, correct me if I'm wrong) and it sounds like it. A rubbish amature band, that happens to be part of the trendy style at the moment.

Saying that I think you have a fair point, many bands don't even get a look in because they are not considered cool, or are made to change to fit in. I guess it works two ways. Hopefully if the band is good enough that wont be the case.

The Arctic Monkeys were made big purely by fans if I'm correct.

They're hardly the epitome of rock stars, are they? I doubt they'd have been signed if it wasn't for their massive fanbase!

Does anyone know any White Stripes style stuff. Their music has a sort of "vintage" feel to it. It's just Meg & White, and the music is so pure. There's none of this computer enhancement over production crap.

is this where people like bands when no one knows them... then when other people like them... you dont like the band anymore?

red method.. muette fuente... kappernicus

good bands from the local area... but as soon as they hit the big time... ill slate everyone that likes them because i liked hem first..not really

Have a listen to The Kills, I quite like them, although not quite as refined as The White Stripes.

I loved fall out boy when they were in the underground, now, they are everywhere

I dont see why thats a problem. Like a band for their music, not how many fans they have or whatever. My housemate is the same. He says he cant like Arcade Fire now because everyone knows of them. Um, so what?

1) Who cares?

2) I guarantee that you didn't like them when they were 'underground' - unless you were rocking the Fall Out Boy in early 2002, that is ;)
