What "unheard-of" bands do you like?

I think Greenwheel are really, really good from what I've heard of them. I was 'tipped off', so to speak, though by a member of these forums as it happens - so they can't be that unheard of.

Moving onto the concept of "I knew this band before they were big", I think it's a stupid thing to be arguing about or trying to prove. What's even worse, is the fact that some people seem to almost act offended that this band has become well known, and that people are now 'jumping on the bandwagon' as it were....

"LOL, that band is sooooooooooooooooooooo 2004... yeah yeah man I was listening to them before they had even signed a deal, that makes me BETTAR THAN YUO!!!!11".

Arctic Monkeys are/will no doubt be subject to this sort of stuff, because people will doubtless roll out the stories about how they downloaded their tracks, and saw them play live long before they had got any airplay.

Sadly this affliction seems widespread on the internet and not just in relation to music. Seriously, I reckon some people love to lie in wait on messageboards, desperate for the chance to pounce and declare something to be old news... "WTLW" and all that. This trait in particular afflicts goons who believe that the entire internet was created at SA and feel a desperate need to let everyone know it. Ironically half of those probably don't even remember it from the days when you didn't have to pay for membership ;)

I dunno where Dogs Die In Hot Cars went. I saw them supporting the Ordinary Boys ages ago, but they seem to have disappeared a bit. I think they are still gigging.

DDIHC are a fine example of what a studio can do to a band to make them "chart-friendly".

I saw them supporting the Zutons a couple of years back and they were fantastically awesome, almost outshining the Zutons and then the album came out and it was a bit..meh..

Hoping for a lot more from the next release as they have an awesome sound and its a shame it was wasted on the last commerical release. :(

I like a few not very heard of bands.
Four Star Mary, LA based band, did a fair bit of music for Buffy, and also have some excellent albums. Plus, they are great lads! My old band met em a few times and there was talk of us supporting them in a London gig, but never happened...well the gig happened, the support didn't!
Always make time to have a chat with us before/after gigs though!

Also, the Goo Goo Dolls! Although I suppose they are well known now, but I was listening to them years before 'Iris' surfaced. I read in a magazine once that people often thought of the Goo's as "The biggest band you've never heard of", was well surprised when they turned up on TFI Friday!

I think I saw capdown at the Vic in Derby, they were crap. Then again, you can't really hear anything at the vic.

saw them at The Crown in Worcester (yuck!) and they were fantastical! plus they're just fantastical anyway.

They probably are, The Vic is the pits really I all could tell is that there was a bunch of guys gesticulating and bounding around a stage crafted largely out of egg boxes and duct tape whilst a load of distortion came out of two huge knackered loudspeakers, I stood there and drunk probably the worst pint of grolsch ever crafted in exsistance, then left. Not really fair to review them under that circumstance. :p

Guy by the name of Sage Francis, a fatter (not phatter) Eminem with a beard and much better lyrical content. Comparing him to Eminem isn't really appropriate but the closest mainstream mainstream artist.
There is plenty of free material on his site in the media section, direct link here
He's fairly big in his own circles, but doesn't IMO get the recognition he deserves.
I also quite like some of his musical associates, Tom Inhaler has some good stuff, especially from the album distilled with Corrina Bain.

On other genres I really like Burger/Ink, but they only did one album in 1996, first heard them at CCC camp in Germany in Summer of 1999, apparently dubbed "heroin house".

Kruder and Dorfmeister are odd, I really got to like their style of work around around 1998/99 then a couple of years later kept hearing all their stuff used on adverts, but nothing much in the mainstream.
