Ahhh the good old 9800 pro days. I never had one, but they were the go to card. I still remember people buying 9500 pros and flashing them to 9700 pros

This was me:

Hello all, have been lurking a while. Finally upgraded my box with one of these motherboards and an DH-E6 venice 3000+ at the weekend.

So far, very pleased. My old motherboard (or maybe CPU) had become nightmarishly unstable. It was one of the pre-400fsb nforce 2s, an MSI K7N2G-L. I'd been running it with an XP3200+. It had been fine for a few months but I think the motherboard just wouldn't take it in the longer term. I ended up having to run the CPU at XP2500+ speeds just to get something approaching stability.

Anyway, have been running everything at stock so far. It's rock stable and I'm very pleased. All my directx games used to crash regularly but no crashes so far. Prime 95, looped 3dmark01 and media player looping through all my mp3s overnight didn't cause any problems either. A few things that I didn't realise were hardware problems are now fine (e.g. the KotOR2 patching process, which always used to freeze on me, now works).

Just one query: I'm getting a score of about 3000 in 3dmark 05. Is that normal for my rig? I think I used used to get about 3500 in the old setup but it's been a while since I ran it.. I'm sure it's not the AGP drivers, as there's no problem with framerates in games. Specs are below (old rig was as below but with XP3200+@XP2500+, MSI K7N2G-L and 2x512 Crucial single sided).

ASROCK 939dual SATA2
A64 3000+ DH-E6 'venice' bios rev. 1.2
Inno3D 6600GT AGP 128mb
2GB RAM (2 x 512mb single sided Crucial PC3200 + 2x512mb double sided Crucial PC3200)
Audigy 2
Hiper Type R 480w psu
WinXP Pro SP2

That ASRock board was brilliant. And unlike the old setup was always stable. The 'future CPU' upgrade slot saw a move from S939 to AM2 and DDR to DDR2. I finished that platform in 2010 with an Athlon X2 4600+, 8GB DDR2 and a PCI-E HD4850. Having both AGP and PCI-E at full speed on the board meant for at least one utter bargain of a video card in the meantime.

From what i remember it came pre built in the PC, but could be wrong as i did have to change it, This was in the days of the government scheme trying to get a PC in every house.

Dell took to many orders and upgraded a few for no extra cost, we got a larger monitor better spec and surround sound which was never used.

Hi,

I bought a PC for general use a few months ago, but I'm now looking to play some games on it. I'm not looking for top end stuff, will mostly be playing Skyrim but would be happy to buy another new card in future if I want to up my gaming so to speak.

So, the system I have is Acer XC600. I'm looking for a reasonably priced graphics card. Im also not sure if I would have to change my PSU?

Any advice appreciated.

Given what has followed over the years since, that comment is particularly hilarious to me... although not to my bank account.

Whatever it was, it's not on these boards any more. It was pre-"big nuke" in 1999 IIRC, and probably involved talk of an AXIA Athlon CPU.

On this board, it was

Hopefully, this'll get stickied.

There were pics in there when I posted. Both Strats were replaced my "CIJ" ones. I was big into my guitar playing at the time. These days I might play once every 18 months.

This apparently from 2007..

Just noticed I think my post count has been reset, I don't really pay any attention to it but I'm pretty sure I've made more than 385 posts since 2007.

Anyone using 2x1GB/2x512MB (3GB) config?

Just wondering if this would work correctly in dual channel and if anyone else is using this type of setup?

I use Windows XP with x86 so don't really want to buy 4GB when allot of it will go unused plus will only be able to use 3.5GB anyway.

Do you happen to have the batch numbers for the sticks that have died??

I RMA'ed a 1GB stick around 3 months ago, now the second stick from the 2*1GB kit seems to have gone bad.
My suspect stick is from batch CL1115J.TQ

Cheers for the reply.

Stick definetly gone. Won't even boot with it in now.
Excatly the same problem I had with the first one.

That's the last time I'll be using Ballistix. I was always under the impression that this stuff was the best available.
I haven't even overclocked it yet, always run 2.8v & 250mhz. Even when it was new, it wouldn't boot with less than 2.8v.
Would never run 1T either.

Oldest one on record, from 20th Dec 2002, 22:18 - It's in one of the archive foums. Howerver, there would have been many posts before this one, especially pre-nuke.

As a special treat to all those Sir-Tif-é-Kat winners, please let me present you with this lovely cake which was hand prepared earlier today in the OcUK dunjunns.

Yup. You guessed it. It is of course banana cake ;)

Cut yourself a slice and give it a taste :D

Installing Vista / Windows 7

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi there. I'd just like some advice whether or not it'd be worth installing vista/win7 on my pc. Here are my specs:

Pentium D @ 3ghz
3.5GB DDR2 RAM
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1
320gb Seagate barracuda in Raid0 (2 x 160) 7200rpm
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT 512mb GDDR3

I'm considering maybe even creating a small partition and installing windows 7 to dual boot with XP, or just install Vista Home Premium 64bit.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

having some problems with my overclock, am hitting a brick wall at 3808mhz, also to get this speed my vcore is 1.6v [it shows as 1.4vcore in cpuz but goes up and down with activity], if i try to increase the fsb any more it blue screens [caused by some sort of custom bios?]

this was bought as an overclocked bundle from overclockers, im wondering if somehow the bios is limited as the vcore is very high

specs as follows

oc.jpg

x6 1055t 95w @ 3808mhz
750watt antec true gamer psu

Now when i recieved this from overclockers it bluescreened its face off untill i pumped the voltage up a little and its now perfectly stable but worried about the voltages. the only other thing ive changed is pumping the northbridge up a little and the vcore to get it stable.

any help apreciated?

im still within the 14 day rma period so would like some answers :)

Steve

First post! I've been lurking this forum for a while now but only just decided to register.

I've ordered my GTX 980Ti SC+ the day they were released but I'm also part of the massive group waiting...

I was sure i started posting before then lol

My first post was well before this incarnation of the forum but on here it was this sports post of which football team you support:

Spurs and my local team Woking FC. With Woking conceding approximately 4 goals per game in the conference at the moment I feel I'll never be in the position of having my loyalties split if the two teams were to play each other :)

I don't really follow Woking anymore having moved away 10 years ago.
