What was your first online Multiplayer game?

Quake and Diablo would have been the first proper online games for me, before that I'd played various games at home over null modem cables and then LAN

My first proper online game was Starcraft. I'd played others at friend's houses, like Total Anihilation. LAN with Baldurs Gate too.

Halo 2. Though I was late to the party and everyone was far more skilled than I was. Still remember it being my 234th match of lone wolves mode (FFA) before I won one.
Didn't get a decent PC till a few years after when I got into WoW.

One of the Rainbow Six series back when it was a tactical shooter with breaching buildings to get hostages out.

Changed not long after to playing UT online only.

Absolute first ever was Duke Nukem 3D in 1996! It had a basic 2 player dial up system where someone would ring you up via their modem and connect to your game. Took ages to get it working right and only the person dialling you would pay for it haha!

Only vaguely remember it but was just in awe at fact I saw my friend's avatar running about in my game!

First multiplayer game was probably Quake as we used to pile round a mates house with our PC's and network them together for all night gaming sessions...great times.

First online multiplayer game would be Ultima Online back before they ruined it with the Felucca and Trammel split worlds.

Quake 2 was the first I think but didn't gel with me. Then half life came along and I played death match religiously on my 56k dialup then moves to counterstrike when it was in beta.

Always remember how jealous I was of the guys in Sweden and Netherlands with their fancy cable connections :p all I can say was thank god for services like redhotant for free dialup, too many expensive phone bills!

Quake for me again I think.

My dad used to hire out a village hall with friends and we'd have a Lan party with about 20 people or so for a long weekend :)

Do think someone got his computer thrown out the window on time though when he used cheats which flagged a message to every other player in the game (Master of Orion iirc)

Quake.

I bought a Diamond Multimedia 33.6 SupraExpress modem from a friends father.

I then dialled his house and is if by magic, it worked. We were playing together online.

Good old days.

No need to know an IP address, just ring their phone :D

Flight sim 98, not the most exciting but i was more in awe of being in the same game as people across the world (mostly Americans it would seem)

Hmm I think my first online multiplayer game was Delta Force by Novalogic back in 98? Then what I can remember probably TFC / Ultima Online I think.

Pangya, although it was called Albatross 18 by the first company that was running the game and when they (possibly) lost it (before they did it never got updated along with the anti hack which caused a surge in hacking) it went to the US arm of the original creator, and when a EU server sprung up I joined that (which didn't last long) and even spent some time on the Japanese server (as they had a newer version of the game then the EU/US servers had) until they went and blocked all non Japanese IP addresses and after that I had to go back to the US server but with the game and more likely the anti hack causing issues for my laptop I gave up on it and after getting some interest in seeing how it was going only to find that the US server had closed up a few month before along with a lot of the others (including the games home Korean server) leaving only two servers running (one probably infested with hackers and the other being the Japanese server which I'm unlikely to be able to access because of the IP block).

Odd but throwing it out there, Commando's.

Swiftly discovered the error of my ways and started on q2 like most others. Became religion till TFC came about.
