What watch do you wear?

Crikey that's more than I expected. Can you comment on how it compares to the SARB range?

I've seen macro shots and reviews (especially the JOMW one) of the SARB033 as an example and can say the main differences are in the case fit and finish and finer detailing found on the Alpinist SPB259J1. Even under Macro it's very hard to see any cheaper finishing on the Alpinist. Both the SARB and SPB25911 have the same bracelet it looks like and whilst it is comfortable, it offers basically no micro adjust and has pin and collar for link adjustment which I don't like. I am not a fan of bracelets anyway though.

I fully imagine the SPB259J1 would have been around the £550 mark had it not been a 140th anniversary limited edition. The dial is in a league of its own though and no SARB can compare even remotely. The lume is better, the hands are better, the applied markers are more striking, the crown is grippier, the water resistance is doubled but as a by-product the case is slightly thicker at 12.9mm vs the 11.9mm of the SARB and there's an AR coated single domed sapphire crystal too.

Having bought a lot of watches over the years in the £500 to £1000 range I think the £670 rrp is very reasonable for the quality finishing and details you get. The only two things I'm not a fan of are the movement deviation depending on positional wear, and the bracelet's lack of adjustments although both of these negatives are things Seiko has been famous for going on many years now in the mid-range segment so it's kind of expected. Hell even their Grand Seiko bracelets aren't all that for features either.

For me it's all about the tropic strap and dial alone. Edit* Just look at it!

Thanks mrk. It does look stunning. I didn't realise it was limited. The only thing that puts me off in the Prospex logo :(

What strap size did you get please? got mine wrapped up ready for Christmas from the missus although looking at the straps in the link you posted could only see 20mm of that design and believe this watch is 19mm. Thanks.

I kinda like the prospex logo! It sets itself off from some of the others that aren't in the prospex line although I guess in place of it something that indicated the limited edition would have been better.. Or if the only text at the bottom was "Ginza Limited Edition" that would have worked too.

20mm is what I'm using. All watches with 19mm lugs will take a 20mm strap no problems. You just have to swap out the strap's spring bar with the Seiko 19mm one and you're good to go. It is nice and snug

Someone on WUS got this Monstraps leather for their Ginza and have to say it looks superb. If only I liked leather straps for my own watches!

Rubber strap in dark blue plus a spray paint suitable for rubber in a metallic 'green/blue' :p

Or you could just look for a vegan leather strap in that colour.... they're basically pleather

The issue is not that I don't like leather, it's just that Iprefer rubber as it is just easier to clean and maintain. I don't like how any pleather or leather has fabric lining etc that absorbs moisture and over time just gets mank etc with regular use.

So natural rubber all the way as it always looks the same, and can be washed along with the watch in these covid times etc!

I'm just the same, I'm a sweaty so n so, so I'll always take a bracelet or rubber type strap over leather just because I can clean it off easily and not destroy the strap unnecessarily. Unless it's a rarely worn dress watch.

Besides, you can get some quite convincing rubber straps. Even if this one is obviously rubber, I think it suits the watch.

True the tropic has a certain look and lustre that no leather cab march I guess!

What rubber strap is that one @Parsley? One of those on my bronze Stowa would look cool for dress-up situations!

Not posted in a while so here are some of the watches Ive managed to grab a loan of to check out over the past month or two...

After months of back and forth, I finally got the brown strap and got it put on the watch.

Had to reset the time 3 times in 12 hours yesterday, running slow by minutes after 3 or so hours... Foaming. Obviously past the returns policy, but I'm hoping they sort it out cause for a watch of this price point it's unforgivable.

Ah cheers, just noticed the price! I don't think I want to spend that much on another strap that will only be form every now and then! If it was around the £30 mark then yes :p

The Hirsch Pure natural rubber will remain!

The SoTC currently...
