What watch do you wear?

Newest watch came today, loving these metal G-Shocks :)

I've started wearing this Valjoux 7750 powered Victorinox chronograph recently, I bought it from Facebook Marketplace a few years ago..

I've been collecting watches since I was sixteen (Grandpa was a wath repairer), i'm now sixty six so it's fifty years now!!

John :)
Amazing collection, I think if it was me I would want them all on display in a dedicated watch room!, some people will criticise the enormity of the collection but I think it brilliant, do what you enjoy.

I want to ask a question and I genuinely don't mean this as a troll post or anything: what's the appeal of an automatic movement? As far as I've seen while looking around for watches, they tend to command a higher premium but need to be worn daily to keep going. Most have a power reserve of less than 2 days, so if you decide to not wear it for a week, you'll come back to it, have to wind it up, reset the time etc... that seems very faffy for a more expensive product, so what's the deal?

Apologies for being a luddite :p

They're tiny machines that sit on your wrist, accurate to with a few seconds a day solely through springs and gears, powered by the movement of your body. If you listen to them it almost sounds like they're alive.

If you get them serviced they can last a lifetime plus the smoothness of the seconds hand sweep is quite satisfying.

When you see how a watch goes together, it is quite incredible that it can function as @Sheff describes. Yes a quartz watch will be more accurate or a glance at a phone / smart watch will tell you all you need to know and do so much more but its the appreciation of how its made over anything I'd say.

This may help appreciate what's involved?

Depending on your stance, you can appreciate the workmanship, the history of the brand or as a status symbol.

EDIT

Also in a world where instant gratification seems to be more the norm, its nice to hark back to a simpler slower pace of life. Similar to where you see someone tinkering with an old car rather than having to rely on a garage to fix it for you by plugging in a computer.
