Yes you can 'top it up'. All you're doing is tightening the mainspring, which holds the 'power' for the mechanism.

You can also (with the skeleton movements) keep a little eye on the mainspring to see how much power you have left

Does the spring gets weaker as the years go by thus increasing the need to wind up more frequently ?

This is my watch. I keep it tucked away rather than wear it, hence the wrong time and day. The damn thing weighs too much for it to be practical for everyday use.

Looking for some advice,I've never owned a watch but have fancied one for some time now and have found a reasonably priced watch that won't kill me if I decide they are not for me, I realy like the style and look of the watch too.

Can be had for about £100-120
Sorry for the poor picture, the watch is onyx black,is there any issue with it suffering more from scratches on the black strap? And if so is there anything to do to protect from this like a lacquer.

heh, good taste! I got a SNKF51K1 for a daily beater. I don't know how resistant the black is to scratches, although I found this.

Having never wore a watch I'm unsure on face dimensions,I'd like a decent sized face what sort of size are these? Do they look lost on a large wrist?

I think the seiko '5' range tend to be a bit 'mid sized' ~ 38mm.

For a big wrist you probably want 40mm minimum. The dimensions of watches are easily found with a quick google.
