What watch do you wear?

Had a bit of a play with my PO this weekend, really challenging to take photos of actually! The ceramic is basically a mirror, thus the slightest difference in angle meant the lighting changed dramatically. here's a few quick edits:

Would you mind sharing your lighting setup for these amazing shots?

Stunning work!

Look on the bay for the cocktail time, it's a seller which ships from Ireland; highly recommended and cheap.

Come to think of it, I got mine from eBay also, mine was from a Japanese seller though.

Any Steinhart Ocean 1 owners about? I'm looking for a new daily driver and really like the look of them.

What are they like to live with?

I like mine a lot. It wears quite boldly on the wrist, if you have small wrists, it may look a little silly. I always tend to recommend them, it was my first Swiss piece and it's a step up in terms of build quality and movement compared to most out there. I went for the ceramic insert option, as it doesn't scratch like a piece of cheese.

Great thanks.

What size wrists do you have? Mine aren't huge so would be good for a comparison.

How much did you pay? They told me in Abu Dhabi it's 29000 AED which I thought was really cheap

29500, which is about £6.5k at the current exchange rate. I think that's quite similar to the UK retail after the increase. According to the paperwork retail in Dubai is 33000..

Thanks :)

Lighting setup was 2 profoto b1s shooting into 3 foot octas positioned about 2 foot either side of the camera about level with the lens, centre of the octa about a foot higher than the watch angled in about 45 degrees from straight and down about 30 degrees :)

Thanks very much for the detailed reply :) I shall have a play around!

Question to folks on here ... automatic watch owners - how much drift do you see per day / per week +/- seconds or minutes?

Just trying to get a feel for how much I should expect out my GMT as it seems to be way out of whack and if thats not common I'll return it (as it was described as having been checked for accuracy of time keeping).

Thanks

R

All autos will be +/- a certain amount, it will vary depending on the climate and orientation as well. If you're losing too many seconds a day though, then it will need regulating or checking. Typically you will gain seconds rather than lose.

COSC certified movements have a margin (−4/+6s a day) they need to comply with in order to be certified, although even most non certified movements are well within this margin regardless.

All of my autos have been up to +2 to +4s a day. The most accurate was actually the Longines HydroConquest which was +1s a day, and is closely followed by the Tudor Pelagos at +1 to +2 now depending on how it's worn and placed at night before bed.

Thanks mrk - the one I picked up on Monday falls drastically outwith those parameters. Time to visit the store!

Being it's age it probably just need a service, or should have got one when you got it.

I hardly ever adjust my Steinhart. It keeps accurate enough between the clock change.

Ive been noting the drift over the past few days and it ranges between 18 to 56 seconds fast per day. Thats with wearing, using a winder at night and leaving beside the bed. All grossly over the +10 the retailer stipulated when I quizzed them at purchase. Trip back it seems unfortunately.

Bought a watch on eBay from Hong Kong for 99p including shipping, just for a laugh, out of curiosity.

The case is made of metal, the glass is made of glass, it works, it keeps time, it has a removable strap, a replaceable battery, and while it does look cheap, it looks £25 cheap, not 99p cheap.

I'm quite shocked!

The strap is rubbery plastic type stuff pretending to be leather though, so I ordered a Nato for it. 99p from Hong Kong again. :p

some of the cheap autos are great, my orient is plus 1 sec a week.

If it's quick it might just have been magnetised in transport; get a demagnetizer on amazon or ebay; they cost 5 quid and might save you the trouble.

Also go my eyes on a Seiko Cocktail but can't seem to find any UK retailers (I know it's JDM) but don't fancy getting stung with customs charges. Definitely one I'm keeping an eye out for.

I bought mine from citiwide-online_uk on eBay and had zero issues :) absolutely gorgeous watch, should really get round to fixing it (I dropped it :( )

It was all over the shop.

+56

Over the past 4 days/nights (not in order of day).

So took it back today for a refund. When quizzed the dealer said they just kinda see if they kinda hold time properly ... idiots.

Now looking at a 2008 GMT II
