What's going on with The Royal Mail?

Special delivery is **** take now, posted on 28th May and delivered today!
At work we get pre-9 deliveries, some don't even show up until the next 2 days later and at the same time get ripped off the price rises.

I did a few years before and after privatisation, i left recently just before the recent strikes, which are still unresolved.

Reality is they have to abide by the daily letter deliveries with barely any mail to deliver to each property. That, even if publicly owned is unsustainable. The people up top are clueless and short sighted. It took them until after main covid hit to introduce photo delivery, whilst other couriers brought it in straight away. Barcoded stamps that aren't used for delivery. 100s of examples of incompetence are evident. Throw in widespread bullying, impossible walk lengths, inability to book holiday but pay sick pay, and no replacement of the multitude of staff leaving, you then have the delivery service of today.

I would be quite happy to pay a little more and have all my mail delivered by another company and then if the RM decides to join the 20th century, I might give them another go.

It is one company I no longer use for my sales and when buying I check first and if RM I shop elsewhere.

We get regular post twice a week. Post person changes frequently.

Special or signed for arrives by van delivery.

Been like that for about 6 months. Bleh.

Never mind the mail whats happened to the DVLA/govt agencies in general? Got a vehicle tax reminder stating that my tax expires on 31st May, the letter landed on my doormat mid morning on... the 31st of May. Forgot to renew before midnight had to do it the day after. I'm a criminal but going on the DVLA website it kept reporting a not found error and had to start over again got there eventually but christ what a palaver.

When was the letter sent...

IIRC my reminder arrived about 2 weeks before it was due, but several days after it appeared to have been posted.

I'm lucky my local postie is still the same about 3-4 days a week, but the packages are a mess with it seeming that half the time small packages (with tracking bar codes) are being delivered at 4-6pm by someone who I suspect is a manager.

The sorting office where my mail comes from was open 8-12 every day and during the evenings for 2 nights.

Now its open 8-10. Not so brilliant if you need to leave home early for work.

The post boxes round here bar the one inside post office and by sorting office have gone from 4pm collection to 7am collection (9am on Saturday).

What do they achieve from doing this? People are posting stuff and taking an extra day to get to people as if post during the day, mail will be picked the following morning.

Collection at 4 pm means they have to have a driver and a van specially on that duty to drive round and make the collections.

Changing it to 7 am means the delivery guy that is allready walking the route delivering mail to the area can open the box and make the collection

Degrades the service people get but saves management a van collection duty

28th was a Sunday, Monday was a bank hol so it's "only" a day late. Not great as it's SD but not as bad as it sounds.

It all depends on your postie.

We had a wonderful lady called Michaela delivering in our village for years, knew all the people that were generally in to take delivery etc, never had an issue, even used to give her a tip at Christmas.

Anyway was chatting to her, from the gist of it RM are trying to manage out "the old ones" eg people who have been employed there a while, no doubt so they can replace them with people on cheaper terms.

They moved her to another area, apparently one with a bunch of pikies, and the new guy we got is terrible.

The road next to us keep getting our post etc, we were on holiday, and the guy put a missed delivery slip for a parcel, I thought it was odd, but anyway got home after a week, went to the post office few days later and picked it up.

It wasn't for us, but house round the corner and it was from the NHS as apparently quite urgent after chatting to the neighbour.

I also had another occasion, ordered 4 separate bits from eBay, just little things, 3 things turned up, then a few hours later another neighbour turned up with the 4th. I mean, it's got the same name and address on it, how can you deliver 3 to one address and the 4th to another? No excuse for that.

Postie dependent I guess, never had a problem with delivery office but then again outside of regular post I rarely get things via RM these days.

I have to be honest and say that Royal Mail around here remain the most reliable of any of the delivery services, seem to have constant trouble with DPD and Evri but Royal Mail come through.

Expensive. Slow. Unreliable. They are doomed.

The only good thing is they donate free elastic bands to me, delivered randomly to my doorstep.

You are lucky, they can’t even do that around my way, I have to walk around and find them on the pavements, sometimes they treat me to a few of the larger bands which come in handy.
