What's your weekly flutter?

Working in a 18+ slot machine amusements. It's very boring and I plan to jack this in before Xmas too and just become a gentleman of leisure for a while. :)

I have been in receipt of a lot of money before and it goes VERY quickly when you have nothing coming in. I would recommend against being "a gentleman of leisure".

For the first few weeks I was like, "man, life is ace, no worries", then after a few months this started to turn to panic as I realised the money was draining fast on rent, bills, nights out, presents I'd bought myself and other people, and I had nothing coming in. I eventually ended up thousands of pounds in debt on credit cards.

I hope you're thinking of investing some of it. I would seriously not jack in your job though, or at least look for another. You will surely be aware of all the tales of big-time winners who have gone down a similar path and ended up with nothing.

Honestly, it's amazing that you've won this money, but don't quit your job without something else lined up.

EDIT: just checked your winnings.... OK... looks like you'll be set up for life so good luck! And don't squander [too much of] it. :p

I stick a tenner into my online Poker pot each month to see how well I can do. Been doing pretty well this past year. We actually went to a Hold'em table in our local casino last Saturday as I'd made enough profit to afford the £50 buy in. Walked out £70 up after an hour. Might stop the online for a while now and just use that money to buy in at tables every other weekend. It's so much better being at a table.

Big difference that’s nothing compared to what’s been won in here lol.

As nice as it is just don’t put it back in to gamble.

@LeeUK How's life treating you now chap, that you've had time to have a think about your future :)

Did you treat yourself to anything nice? Car? 4090? :D

Life is treating me very well I think. :) Only thing I've purchased so far is my new (new to me) Jag E-PACE Chequered Flag. Only other money I've spent was a gift to my sister after I won which was a Pixel 7 Pro (which was over £900) and other family gifts at Xmas. Not spent anything else on my self yet other than the Jag.

I'm still working 16 hours a week in the adult gaming centre, the money I get from this is my pocket money for the week :D but I'm definitely planning on jacking the job in soon rather than later.

I get my 4th payment from my winnings Annuity this Friday. Hopefully I'll have a new rig soon, still deciding if I should build or buy pre-built - I'm thinking i9 with has much ram as possible. :D

Aha I'm sure.

Gambling's a mugs game and generally speaking I detest it, but have always been pretty decent at Poker. We actually paid for our first holiday with money I'd won online. This was a while ago though, I've backed off it a lot since then as it's quite time consuming if you want to make decent money.

I keep a few spreadsheets going to track margins and I'm about £180 up since November off about £30 deposits.

Got a friend who's big on Blackjack which I've never, ever understood. Unless you're counting it seems like the most appalling waste of money imaginable next to roulette. At least with Poker you're not paying the house.

How much is a lot? Do you know how much Lee won over how much time?

It’s not like he can just take 2million of it and go waste it. It’s locked.

Yep, money is locked and I only get £10,320 per month. Even if they gave me the option of taking the £3.6mil in one lump I'd actually choose to keep taking it each month instead!

By any chance have you thought about investing Lee?

Yep I'm definitely thinking about investing, went to see the financial adviser who Camelaot supplied me with complimentary and basically he said not to start anything for at least 18-24 month until I've adjusted to the money and got "big ticket" purchases out of the way. I have his card to get in touch if I want to use his services. The company he is from is like some whole of market and don't make commission from recommended products. He did advise me to always make sure I use an adviser like him and not just someone who only wants to sell me what they are selling.

I only really want to jack in the gaming centre job as it's immensely boring. I'd still take on another part-time job if I find something I like.

It's the worst option. Youd be better off taking the lump sump and locking the rest away if you couldn't resist the temptation to spend it all.
It's not the temptation, it's the idea of like still getting an income every month instead of nothing coming in apart from maybe some interest.

oh come on! you no fine well the temptation of spending a lot is there if you had it sitting. I don't care what anyone else says I would IMO take the 10K a month.

The only way I would take the jump sum is if I was heavily investing.

You'd invest it and rather than the money lose value due to inflation (like it will with the monthly value) it would actually grow in value (all things being well) or atleast grow more than the fixed monthly amount will deflate. Even a small % on a big number is quite a lot, especially if you have no mortgage or car payments and a chunk in the bank.

I play a lot of DFS sports betting, mainly NFL and NBA.

Very cheap entry fees but massive payouts available, plus its actually fun picking line ups etc as Ive always liked fantasy stuff.

I actually placed 1st in a 1 million dollar first prize contest once (don't get carried away, more info below :D ) last season Monday night game showdown game between the Lions and Packers.

I hadn't seen the result but was going through my emails and saw from Draft Kings, Congratulations on placing 1st in the $1 million dollar to winner showdown contest.

So at this point my heart is starting to beat a bit faster, reading more though it says, as you tied 1st in this contest we need to determine the ticket prize, you also win a ticket to a grand final, so I'm thinking, well a tie is still good, maybe I'm sitting here half a million dollars richer.

However, the disappointment finally hits me upon entering my account to see I had tied with 262 other people so my possible 1 million dollars had turned into a $6500 win. Still brilliant but the way it went down reading that email first about placing 1st in a million dollar first prize contest, its the most disappointing win ever:D
