When are you going fully electric?

It’s end of life, all new model due to launch next year.

Its changing to a compact SUV and moving over to the new platform Nissan and Renault use so will have CCS charging and a proper battery thermal management system.

The current model is the same as what they have been selling for years, still has Chademo charging and sub par drivetrain/battery for 2024, hence the price.

Edit: did you say £13.5k? It’s not the best car in the world but £13.5k for a brand new car, that’s a good price, even with the leafs shortcomings. They are very reliable by all accounts.

Nissan Leaf was my first choice at one point but I was communicating with a Leaf employee on Redditt.
He said the battery size is abysmal, all of the car is basically old technology and when it comes to charging it it's like the old VHS/Betamax wars with the Leaf's Chadermo system being Betamax so stay away.
He also said there will be a new platform next year and that's when the MG4 Trophy went back to the top and I paid for it yesterday.

All true but for 13.5k for a brand new car, that’s hard to pass up when the equivalent MG would be not far off twice the price for a new one.

If you manage your expectations on range, are just using it for local journeys and don’t plan on traveling the country, the chademo system is not so much of an issue. It will cost buttons to run over its lifetime.

If its limitations are a problem then stay well clear.

It's such a shame they made these last batch of Leafs with the 40kwh battery. They should have ditched that model years ago - and just focussed on the 62kwh battery model.

Those with the BG Smart Socket how do you set the Timer?
I can set it to come on but there is no off timer.
I have seen the setting for Max Work Time so do you combine it with this setting?

Or is it set in Recylce Timing, I couldn't get that to do anything?

I use the broadlink app with mine but it should be the same.

under the timers button you set a time, under operation you pick left or right socket and on or off. So you have to set two times set one for socket on at XXXX and one for socket off at XXXX.

I use the broadlink app as the BG one you can't unlock the socket for local control via some assistant. The BG socket is a rebranded broadlink product.

Woohoo, did it.
I was expecting one Timer and you could put both On and Off in the same one.
Thanks

Is anyone using Tomato Energy.?
Their Lifestyle tariff gives you 6 hours of 5p/kWh (including VAT) from 12am to 6am and two additional 2 hours slots at 13.37p. Standard rate is 23.16p and standing charge 40.82p.
Those rates are fixed for 12 months with no exit fees.

You set a timer for on, and then a timer for off:

It's a bit like programming Videoplus+ - you need to select everyday, make sure it's active etc.

If you connect your account to Alexa, you can also tell it to turn it on or off. Or turn on Xxxx at 10am, etc. I've called my socket 'Car Charger'. So I just tell Alexa to turn the car charger on / off if I want to charge outside of the overnight schedule.

I am using them currently. the smart meter data still not showing on their site. I switched in July and taken them 2 months to transfer the meter across - so now my MPAN and meter serial are showing on the website. But no consumption data yet. I ah e been downloading my own data off smart meter to keep record.

They are very slow but it does look like things are getting done. If you call them, you get through very quickly but they won’t help with anything technical, but they are quick to resolve any account issues or money side of things.

I rate them 8/10 atm on customer services side of things, it’s 1/10 for their website just cos after 2 months my consumption data is still not available to see and to see how much I am spending.

Although I do keep my own spreadsheet.

Never heard of them but out of interest I just got a quote from them and they have undercut Octopus Intelligent Go by quite a bit. The cheap rate is 2p per kWh cheaper, the peak rate is 3p per kWh cheaper when the price rise kicks in with Octopus, then you have those two two hour slots every day at 13.37p per kWh. Best of all the standing charge is 20p per day cheaper. That's very tempting especially as a EV owner but it all seems too cheap. Are they going to be another company that goes to the wall in the next couple of years? There are quite a few one star reviews for them as well. No gas supply plus it appears that they use a third party to collect smart meter data and you only see your usage per month which is a big no for me. I think I will stick with Octopus for now. Better the devil you know!!

I just play the system with IO currently to often get 12+ hrs of off peak. I am tempted though by Tomato but they don’t offer export rates…I hated Scottish power for their export and really like the fact Octopus credit you monthly.

I’m going to work out if I can make tomato work though

This is about Insurance and not about me not getting my car yet so could appear in any group.

We bought the car last Sunday and he said we can pick it up Tuesday but a job needs to be done, there was a small mark on the front spoiler and they had the part.
he said wait until I ring you and DON'T GET YOUR INSURANCE UNTIL THEN.
Tuesday came, he rang around 2pm and said I'm so sorry but the new spoiler was faulty so another one is coming on Thursday and DON'T GET YOUR INSURANCE UNTIL THEN.
He rang at 2pm and said the part is here, it looks good but it will take up to 3 hours to fit so you can come at 5pm but wait until I ring you. I said 5pm is no good because we are going somewhere so he said I'll tell the service area to get on with other stuff but I'm sorry you will have to collect on Monday now and DON'T GET YOUR INSURANCE UNTIL THEN.
So a bit disappointed and to be honest Thursday, Friday and tonight we are out and didn't really want to take the new car so no problem waiting while I get my charging area all setup.

My wife had been trying to get Insurance ON THE DAY so decided to put Monday's date in and here's the difference, buy on the day and Insurance is £70 dearer for us
Like my wife said, Insurance have got you by the balls ,know you want it today and hike the prices.
So we haven't waited until Monday to buy Insurance, we bought it yesterday and got it £70 cheaper :)

If your considering Tomato I would do two things, check companies house and also Ofgem.
If you happy with both those sites then they look ok, till something goes wrong according to some reviews.

I am all for Octopus getting some competition now though which seems to be happening.

Do you have a quote still from a couple of weeks back? I'd be tempted to try and call the insurer, state you want to go ahead with the quoted price but your car has been delayed so you'll need it *insert whatever date here*. Any decent insurer should oblige.

The bigger quotes nearer renewal (or policy start in your case) is due to last minute quoters being statistically more likely to make a claim, well... So they say.

If you haven't kept any quotes then you may just have to suck it up.

Picked up my new model Y RWD this afternoon..initial impressions are good, seems quite agile for such a big thing..

Big bird poo etching needs polishing out and a couple of scratches so they booked a service appointment to get those looked at..

60 mile round trip to look forward to tomorrow

Need to play with the regen breaking settings and see which I prefer
