When are you going fully electric?

It is very very nice. But in terms of outright build quality, the BMW wipes the floor with it.
in what way - exterior design of newer bmw's & i4 has some critics, are seat comfort & cabin aesthetics on a bmw so much better than (bauhaus) id7 ?

underbody - I've seen some Munro criticism of the design of the ID7/MEB struts&bracing, impacting long term reliability/costs - maybe BMW's are more optimised;
handling&ride ID7 is what it is, for it's weight, extrapolating from just test driving a newer F31 320 versus 20yr old touring, the additional 200Kg+size, loss of inline6,
is to the detriment of F31, and, the cabin on the newer car is perhaps a little better, that's progress!, but F31 is ncap5 & lower CO2.

ID7 looks smart, couldn't get over just how big they were in the flesh though :D

I looked at them but decided in my work car park the length would be a bit of a pain so ended up looking more closely at the ID4 GTX (and Skoda Enyaq VRS amongst other things) but then Polestar 2 Performance Pack came onto my co car list so jumped on that :)

i4 BMW's are boring on the outside unless you get the M Sport packs etc (and even then arguably) but so nice on the inside tbf, I only had the edrive35 as an option though and it was bare bones spec wise and cost £50 p/m more than the Polestar2 I ended up going with. If I'd gone non Performance pack could've got the dual motor polestar 2 for no additional contribution but my petrolhead side couldn't turn down the extra power & having the option to tweak the ohlins etc.

Exterior design has very little to do with build quality - in that way. Munro is a joke, why would you bother watching all those videos.
exactly, I don't think MrR is that shallow on exterior design ... so I'm asking about objective data on chassis and other components that are pros for bmw build quality
lol all these videos - Munro organisation seems to have some industry credibility for tear downs and analysis of design quality - you don't agree ?
[ you could argue that watching such a video is like watching a tv program on heart surgery with average viewer being unable to interpret quality of the work,
but I think the issues he raises comparing designs are more relatable for someone in engineering ]

Well i dont watch them, and you do. So im not sure that covers the more relatable to people in engineering...

Hes a Musk sell out now, and the samll part of the video he did with RJ Scaringe that i could tolerate was cringe. Im sure it has appeal to some people, just not engineers.

in what way

More rattles, less sound insulation, actual buttons instead of touch everything.

Just shutting the door feels better quality on the BMW.

Another example - there are no rear window switches. There’s a touch button, right by the front switches, which changes front/rear mode.

You inevitably press it each time you’re trying to put the window up/down.

Even the key sucks. It’s not easy to distinguish between the buttons without actually looking at the key

Ahhh this is horrible cost cutting, thought they would drop that after all the feedback but they are still doing it even on the ID7?

I keep hear people whinging about the window switch situation - but I really prefer it. In the Merc I am constantly hitting the rear window buttons instead of front because of how its laid out. This would remove that problem entirely, in lieu of the minor/non existant issue of having to press another button to crack the rear open.

It’s funny the things that make you dismiss a car as an option. I dismissed the ID4 as an option because of this silly feature. I won’t entertain a Tesla because of the utterly laughably cheap interior design… it’s a steering wheel stuck to a plank. Well that and I detest Elon Musk. I also dismissed the Polestar 2 because it has only 1 accessible cup holder.

Efficiency and charging speeds mean nothing to me when choosing an EV. Same for how sporty and fast it is. But delete the indicator stalk and I’m not interested in what you have for sale. :)

Unfortunately it doesn’t, it makes it worse.

The reason is that you inevitably touch it as you’re trying to find the window switch anyway, and then you have to find it again to switch it back to the front windows

@Jonnycoupe see above. Issue isn’t wanting to open rear windows. Issue is not wanting to, and seemingly always enabling rear windows when trying to put front ones down, since it’s a touch button right by the switches.
