When are you going fully electric?

Nice to see BMW trying to firmly cement themselves at the back of the BEV market in the UK, they've put the price of the i3 up by £3665, so it now starts at a shade under £40k... I honestly can't see BMW still being around come 2030.

Can you please ask Elon to post this to twitter tomorrow :D

Probably want to position themselves as premium before all cars start to merge into one entity and USPs die. No point chasing volume of it doesn’t make money - that’s what would stop brands existing in 2030...

No other cars have gone up that much if at all, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault, Audi, VW ID.3 (that went down).

I'm being sarcastic that it was a brexit-bonus
bmw said they did it for brexit rules of origin reasons in the article ... nissan have said they are anticipating problems, ... as we know vw reduced to shift quota for their carbon obligations.

looks like bmw are front-loading charges, others will have to back-load into maintenance/warramty/repair costs

Without turning this in the post-Brexit thread, Nissan have said that being in the UK is better for them for BEVs, and has no impact on ICE cars. Up until Brexit actually happened all the car manufacturers and importers were warning of doom and gloom and as far as I can tell, not much of it has come true.

The content rules do seem quite complex and I suspect what we will see is more car makers assembling cars for the UK market, in the UK and the UK government bending over backwards to accommodate car makers/assemblers. Depending on who you believe there will be two or three massive battery plants constructed in the UK (Middlesbrough, Coventry and - very much speculation at this point - somewhere near Bristol) and because of the content rules of origin they’ll really only be sensible for use in the UK. And that means someone somewhere thinks we’ll be building a lot of BEVs in the UK.

I think BMW have been losing money on the i3 for a while and have cashed in their ‘Brexit Bonus’ card. Mini hasn’t gone up despite the batteries and most of the power train coming from the same source. Vauxhall Corsa e, Peugeot 2008 e, Mercedes EQC etc. None have increased in price. So I think BMW are using Brexit as an excuse for that price-hike.

2 weeks today until I get the Polestar 2.

Is it weird that as a 38 year old man this is probably the most excited I've been about a new car? I think it's because it's going to be so different to anything I've had before.

Not only have I not test-driven it, thanks to Lockdown 2, but I've never driven any electric vehicle whatsoever.

It's also been nearly 10 years since I owned a properly fast car (Evo X), and i've been driving luxury barges since 2012 (330D Touring, 530D Touring and then Merc E200 Estate)

You have probably seen it all already, but I do enjoy watching Bjorns reviews on EVs, obviously he is testing in Norway so differences there apply.

And you'll never want to go back to ICE, it's so 20th Century. :p

Brave/stupid, yes.

I literally haven't read or watched a bad review of the car though.

It's a lease, so its neither.

Not like you are going to be forced to sell it at the end, you'll not be disappointed in anything but the MB after being in the PS they are sublime.

This is of course completely irrelevant. The whole argument that it doesn't matter because its a lease holds absolutely no water. You've still paid a chunk of cash for use of a car for a fixed period of time. Whether you bought it and then sold it, leased it, hired it, PCP'd it and handed it back or whatever doesn't matter - they are just different ways of essentially paying cash to use a car.

Why does it matter if you leased a car for 36 months for £300 a month or bought one for £40k and sold it for £29200*? You've still paid £10,800 to drive that car for 3 years.

*In the context of whether it matters if you dont like it or not.

This is of course completely irrelevant.

If anything, it's the opposite, if you'd bought it and didn't like it, you could at least choose to sell it near enough immediately and minimise your loss to some extent, a level of flexibility you wouldn't necessarily get from a lease.

I did exactly the same.
Watched a couple of YouTube reviews of the P2 in September and ordered it. No going back to ICE now.

You missed winter which has a pretty big hit on EV range, something to look forward to at the end of year.

I hadn't driven one either before buying an EV. Will be fine.
Polestar 2 gets good reviews. Watched one from Kris Rifa (Bjorn's mate I think ) the other day and he seems to put it above the Tesla M3 overall, even if not quite there when it comes to efficiency.

Also was more excited to get an EV used than I was to get a brand new MX-5 the other year for some reason. Must be a nerd thing :D

Weird i got out of an i-Pace and was quite happy to go back to my ICE :p But i guess I enjoy driving.

I absolutely love driving - all the more so since I got a Model 3 to replace my 3 Series. I used to think EV's would be the end of driving-for-fun, but I find them more fun than the equivalent ICE. Fair enough, you can't compare a petrol sports car to an electric SUV on fun factor, but for similar types of car I would definitely choose electric.
