When are you going fully electric?

My main one is that I need to get to a hospital and back, a bit over 200 miles there and back. No stopping on the way there and back, and nowhere to charge at the hospital (currently) There are chargers there, 2 in the underground car park, and I've seen two on the street, but they are predictably always taken.
A lot of the cars I have been looking at seem to drop to below 200 once the weather gets cold. I quite like the look of the Megane e tech, 280 miles range, great! Then you read about it doing 180 when it's cold...It's not impossible to stop, but it's an inconvenience I don't have to factor in just now.

That's a huge drop!
 
Well heaters do need power. Winter usually bad weather too and rain impacts it as the tyres have to pump water. Ultimately more range = bigger and heavier battery so the car is gonna be heavier

Autotrader is showing some 22 plates so i guess so.
The less that drive ev's means there are more chargers for the rest of us.

If car manufacturers had created a percentage display for the fuel tank, then the perception of range anxiety would be far less of a point.
 
No ice get more efficient under load and filling them up isn’t an issue. Heating is free

Well the speed /power isn’t linear as in a ICE.

Ev Takes longer to fill that’s the issue

Why does it matter
Speed/power linear? have you seen a bhp/torque curve for an ice vs an EV?
Home charging takes less than going to a fuel station in an ev, plug in - when finished - unplug. 2 minutes?

You mean this?

I'm no high mileage driver but when I've needed a charge, they were available and coincided with a comfort break.

Horses for courses though as i know many will say they do 6 hour stints worth no affect on their driving skills;)
 
Some interesting thoughts in here. We don’t do many long trips so I don’t find stopping every 1-2 hours much of a chore on our one big trip a year. But can see it might not suit the motorway heroes that have to do it all the time and want to get it done as quick as possible.

Do think the infrastructure is already good enough though. Just need the 800v tech to be cheaper and range anxiety won’t really be a thing. Taycan charging at 150kW next to me the other day. Very jealous!

heaters are not really an issue for an ICE. 1 thing ICE cars make in abundance is heat so in winter that heat can warm.the cabin. a EV relies purely on the battery to run a heater

that said..... if I am on my own I won't bother with a heater much. seat warmer and wheel warmer will prolly be enough for me , esp if i prewarm the car whilst hooked to my charge poibt

so long as they get proper "to breaking point" testing and they can take a proper good thump i think these motors in wheels are really exciting.

its a pretty big "so long as " caveat. my mate buckled his wheel when he hit a massive pothole hidden in water at silly o clock 6 months back.

like i said, a big enough knock to not only damage the tyre but stop a new one from sealing on the wheel as well, he paid £60 for a replacement wheel from a scrapyard....... this needs to be able to happen and it not take out the entire motor and sundries with it if a new wheel is required.

(i mean what really needs to happen if for councils to get the money they need to fix roads and then be held accountable when a poorly maintained road causes a problem (i am still bitter about the to the primer scratch on my car due to a shocking road last week.............. but i digress..................)

but until that happens the car has to be able to take those sorts of knocks without a multiple £1000 bill.
