When are you going fully electric?

I would also suggest that, whilst it makes a certain amount of sense in the perfect world to have in-wheel motors (and definitely make sense electrically), I worry about their longevity/replacement costs once they start pounding the worlds rutted, pot-holed roads where those in-wheel motors are going to get some serious impacts, especially with "heavier for the same size car" EV's being around 2 to 2.5-ish tonnes on average.

On an ICE or "traditional" EV if you buckle a wheel on a bad road/curb etc you can fairly simply replace it for £200 for example, but if you damage an in-wheel motor as well as the wheel, I would guess thats going to be a huge amount more to fix.

Anyone here modified their EV with spoilers, splitters etc or even lowered it? Which insurance company are you with? Struggling to find any decent insurance companies that will insure a lowered Mini Cooper EV. Most will either say no or charge a stupid amount like £900! A stock car insurance for me is around £380.

which is precisely the point of the green markings on the plates of EVs (not legally essential but good practice to get one)

that way if the worst happens and you are in an accident a firefighter knows to handle the possible battery issues
 
Hardly, Its gimmick, wish mine didnt have them. When firement turn up you are getting out the car at a sensible rate or you are removed cos its smoking, plates that may have been destroyed have nothing to do with the emergency services protocol.

But it might make people feel happier, thats all.

remove them then, there is no legal requirement to have them......... that said a fireman i spoke to about it disagrees with you..... at the time he thought it was a great idea.
 
I don’t have a green plate on mine as they loom awkward. Anyone dealing with a car fire will firstly need to find the battery isolation point and don’t need a green plate to tell them it’s an EV
 
I guess i will tell the fireman he was wrong then because someone on Overclockers forums said so. :D

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion and besides it is fully optional for now so you do not have to have it .... but given its no skin off my nose to have the green mark on, even if only 1 in 10 firefighters think its useful to quickly ID a car as an EV before touching it (it does not necessarily need to be on fire) then that is good enough for me.

(now if you want to talk about it being some form of virtue signalling for having a "green" EV, then i am with you 100%).

Nope. My I Pace will be one of the very few cars I've owned and never buggered about with to some extent. It's almost a relief. :)

Mine has the green bit on the plates. Never really occured to me that it was an issue for some folk. I did wonder whether it was for some specific reason or just passive virtue signalling. :)

back when it 1st launched there talk of the possibility of free parking and what not if you had green plates to encourage adoption....... of course that has not happened - well not in my experience anyway....

Wait having the green bit on your number plate is an issue? Why is it an issue, thats how it comes from factory. There isn't an option to say can i not have the green bit on my number plate please. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy another number plate just to get rid of it either. It is what it is lol.

Easier for traffic wardens to spot the EV's as well with green parking permits! I mean they probably check but at least it stops them jumping to a conclusion lol.
