When are you going fully electric?

back when it 1st launched there talk of the possibility of free parking and what not if you had green plates to encourage adoption....... of course that has not happened - well not in my experience anyway....

I get free parking in Sheffield with a green permit, been using it for a year and just renewed it today for another year. Super handy to have, can park in any council managed carpark or side street within restrictions etc. Has made going into town so much easier if i need something instead of having to pay silly parking prices.

It's a lease, so it'll keep whatever plate / accessories etc it came with. My only job with this car is to top up the washer fluid.
Anyone here modified their EV with spoilers, splitters etc or even lowered it? Which insurance company are you with? Struggling to find any decent insurance companies that will insure a lowered Mini Cooper EV. Most will either say no or charge a stupid amount like £900! A stock car insurance for me is around £380.
I added a subtle light bar to my Leaf - but wouldn't touch anything that would classify it as 'modified'.

And not forgetting to charge it at night lol. Done this a few times and luckily have another car to go to work in! Though i've never had the battery down to the point where i can't get to where i need to be. It's more about if i need to get somewhere after work that requires the extra distance. Public charging is still silly expensive.

I've just done the school pickup in the Q8 - driving it efficiently. Averaged 2.8. I usually get about 3.7 doing the same journey in the Leaf.

I guess that's the price of carrying a whopping great battery around with you.

I think we could likely get away with only charging it once a week - possibly longer. With such big range, it's more like driving a petrol/diesel than my Leaf where you're always wanting to top it up.

Welcome to having a performance SUV and not a shopping trolley.

Imagine moaning a 400bhp 4x4 vehicle now only does 28mpg rather than the previous FWD low powered shopping trolley 37mpg. We would all be amazed at the SUV efficiency!

Yeah thats how i find it with my Mini right now, though it does have one advantage of charging regularly meaning i get the cheap electric rate most nights from when i come home from work. Keeps my leccy bill lower than the average person.

I guess i will tell the fireman he was wrong then because someone on Overclockers forums said so. :D

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion and besides it is fully optional for now so you do not have to have it .... but given its no skin off my nose to have the green mark on, even if only 1 in 10 firefighters think its useful to quickly ID a car as an EV before touching it (it does not necessarily need to be on fire) then that is good enough for me.

(now if you want to talk about it being some form of virtue signalling for having a "green" EV, then i am with you 100%).

Well you are letting your sample of 1 opinion cloud actual facts. So yeah, particularly when ive seen loads of cars with the green stripe. One local dealer infact put a green stripe with a faint logo on their used vehicles since about 2015.

You are right no legal requirement, which is exactly why people are abusing it.

The green thing isn't anything to do with electrics/fire, many PHEVs have as big a battery as early EVs and don't run them.

Plate is to show off to others you are driving zero emissions vehicle and aid the government in its quest to encourage others to buy Zero EV, there is zero benefit to the plate, government endorsed virtue signaling.

Yeh it’s like someone who’s been an industrial fire fighter for 14years at a test centre full test batteries and chargers plus a car park with many EVs gave some input.

Then again you aren’t stuck in a Leaf. If a Leaf was the only EV I could get, the planet can get stuffed because I would get a diesel.

like I said I wasn't discounting your view. the smiley was meant to show I wasn't being entirely serious . clearly you feel different and that is fine but it is no skin off my nose and if some people (not all) feel happier if cars with batteries make it clear they have them then am happy to oblige.
that said if I came across as being rude I apologise

fire authrorities sensitized to li-ion fires this week after cambridge ebike fire/death RIP , albeit they are much less legislated
some of the ev manufacturers also pushing the safety no-run-away aspect of LFP tech too - maybe when we are worrying about battery degradation in older ev's we are missing any safety degradations,
burning out an ev after a crime would probably not be advisable either.

I would do it tomorrow, but have no way to charge due to street parking
I have wanted an EV for some time and am loving mine but I agree. if I could not charge at home or at work personally I would not be getting one yet.

hopefully as we go forward cost effective public charging will become more widespread. it's going to need to as paying up to 80p kWh at fast charge points is not going to win hearts and minds .

That's a shame, because I've still got the Leaf and expect I'll be driving it more than the Q8. It's a more appropriate car for the majority of my daily use. I don't need a 335bhp 4x4 to do the school run. In fact, in the tight little school car park, it's a real hindrance.

Luckily, I still really like driving the Leaf, and it's specced higher than the Audi.

Just plugged the Audi in to test solar charging via a 3 pin. Battery is currently at 87%. ETA time to full charge ..... 12 hrs. :p

Great place to dump excess solar energy, but looking forward to getting intelligent set-up and the OHME installed.

Yet still a Leaf. I just irrationally hate ALL things Nissan. If I were offered any Nissan for free I would turn my nose up at it. :p

The more rational me accepts there were plenty of times I would take the basic spec iX 20 ICE over our E-Tron or I-Pace.

It's getting closer for me now, Octopus installed my Charger yesterday, did an excellent job tidy installation. He did all the tests etc prior to leaving, but had a visit from a friendly Tesla to give it a "proper" test. According to the ship tracker my Car arrived at Tilbury early Friday morning, now its just a waiting game. I ordered in mid October so probably end up receiving it 10 months after.
