When is Valve's multi core patch getting released?

Why do we need the HL2 engine to use dual / quad cores? What is the big deal? It runs absolutely fine on one core, so do many other recent games... I mean, if the frame rate is maxing out at 60 or over, depending on your setup, and the minimum is no where near 30 fps... come on, are you really going to notice the difference? Sure, benchmark-wise, it would be interesting to see the difference but I really don't see what the fuss is about.

Congrats to valve for creating and maintaining a quality engine which does not need the latest and greatest hardware to look great and perform equally well.

I think HL2 still has some of the best looking character modals ever. Best lip syncing I've ever seen on a video game.

OK it's aged a little, but it's still very versatile. Ep2 definately looks a lot better than Ep1 or HL2.

It would help those of us with lesser-machines.

This does make me wonder about how well it will run on the consoles. I wouldn't mind seeing how it looks on them, compared with the all max options on a PC.

so has anyone established whether multiple cpu support has been included yet? or does no one want to stay on topic ;)

Source may be looking dated, but its still good, and even on highest settings its performance is outstanding. Plus, one thing thats always looked shabby is smoke effects.

The rocket taking off in HL2 was pretty damned awesome as far as I'm concerned.
