When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

TBF some people want to just get it over with and move on with their lives. I still have my 970 (that I bought at launch) that I was supposed to change out in the launch of this gen. I will admit I am reaching my limits and I just want to get it over with. But my dislike for spending money badly is keeping me from buying.

I can absolutely get behind this, I'm in a similar boat wanting to replace my 2070S which not only struggles now but also started running into temp limits not even at full load (most probably TIM issues or W11 does something weird). Kudos to you for still rocking a 970.

I know it's preposterous having to pay around MSRP for 2-year-old hardware and I'm going to hold out a bit longer but will most likely start looking for a used 3080Ti in a while. Where I live, those make more sense than 3080s, lol.

I have a bad feeling about the 4000 series with all the rumours around. I think the prices will be ridiculous and the cards not as good as predicted, and most probably not readily available but we'll see. If I can get a 3080 or Ti at an acceptable price, I won't think twice. That at least means having a GPU and not having to upgrade the PSU.

Having said that, it's hard to disagree with those saying that current prices are nothing to rave about.

Dave1983 "but i would not call them hot deals more like these should have been the prices 2 years ago!." thats exactly correct. Prices only appear to be going down as they have been so inflated for so long. makes me raise my eyebrows where you see a 6700xt with slashed the price being dropped from £829 to £499 and this called a hot deal, rather than just returning to what it should have been to begin with.

Maybe I am getting cynical in my old age tho as all other industries do exactly the same thing
Its the same with Black Friday deals, they apparently discount but what they actually do is inflate the price then add discount.

reading on here most people are waiting for the 3080 as anything lower is a side upgrade, but no one want wants to pay the current MSRP. i have been tempted at the £699 but will hold for a bit longer

the 3080 does seem like the card to go for as will probably offer me the performance I am going to want for quite a while longer without havng to worry about much. that or the 6800xt. does give me the option of potentially considering 4k in the future if wanted to maybe. could be wrong, no expert here

The 3080 is a good card at MRSP the only draw back of buying one now is the 10Gb means their value is likely to drop faster then a 6800XT as games get more demanding and require ever greater amounts of VRAM (that's my theory anyway).

it does seem the 3080 is some sort of sweet spot for gamers on 1440p, the other option is the 6900XT but they PSU you need is 2x 8 pin and 1 6 pin ! but that seems over kill unless it's 4k.

The last time i brought a Nvidia Card was when i had the GTX260, all my cards have been AMD 7950, 580, R390 And 5700XT

ive never used an AMD card. however, I have also only ever owned a 970. was console gaming before that and this card did the job. so my fix what was not broken. im sure AMD cards are fine and if i went for either i likely wouldnt notice an actual different with my eyes alone

what about the 12gb version? and what would be a good price for this if you know?
A Good price for either the 10/12 gb version is under £600. The issue will be 4080/4090 being priced around £1000 - £1200. Current prices of used 3090 is £800 with MSRP at £999.

If the rumours are correct with them looking to cut prices it will be the 3080/3090 something like this
  • 3080 10GB £500 - £550
  • 3080 12GB £550 - £600
  • 3080 TI £650
  • 3090 £750
  • 3090TI £850
  • 4080 £1000 - £1200
  • 4090 £1200- £1500
That the only way i can see them layering in the 4000 series with the 3000, but i could be way off. 3090's in the sold market is around £800 so we could see them drop lower and 3080s are around £500. But i think the 3090's will hold value for some time and cannot see them dropping below £700

I'm not sure about 3090's holding their value relative to other cards because half the VRAM lives a rough life on the back of the PCB with no real cooling. I thought this approach was less than ideal on day one, when the gaming performance itself was still new and amazing, and before I knew about crypto mining.

I would prefer a 3080Ti or, if I really wanted 24gb of VRAM, A 3090Ti.

While I'm not someone who thinks that used mining cards are automatically bad, I would want a much deeper discount on a used/mined 3090 because it's much easer to end up bouncing (half) those VRAM modules off their thermal limits.

Because for 4 months now, the doom and gloom spammers have been predicting a flood of chesp gpus..... its not going to happen.
Not sure what you'd call a flood or cheap but it sort of has been happening. The CEO of Nvidia said it has when he said "Our strategy is to reduce sell-to-sell-in this quarter, next quarter, to correct channel inventory." and "We have also established programs to price position our current products in preparation for the next generation of products." As evidenced by them reducing the MSRP of 3090's and 80's a month ago.

I dunno, I recall AMD making some strange pricing when the 590 came out as well as the 5600XT. Didnt the 2080Ti be stocked places for more than the 3080 around release? Im sure OcUK has had this on some items - so it doesnt always happen that way (Newer release means prev Gen instantly drops below it).

I think we are on the third or fourth "flood" predictions now, they are bound to get it right one of these times..

I know I've said this before but MSRP is still too high, the cards are 2 years old. New gen is about to come out. People have been conditioned by the extreme prices, so much so they think MSRP is a good deal.

MSRP is inflated too!

I honestly wonder what is going to happen with the millions of miner gpus that are going to flood the market. General lay person is probably going to see knock down prices and go for it over buying new.

Totally agree,

i would like to see mid-tier cards being reasonably priced.

Looks like the 3080 has started dropping at £650 i am seeing now, interesting to see what the market is like come the 5th September :D:cool:
