When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

I still don’t understand how gamers get kicked by Nvidia. They don’t force you to buy their products
By pushing up prices across the entire range... If you need a card or your need a card of specific performance it was cheaper to buy before all these price rises.
Go back and look at the historical prices for gpus over the years, look at the steady increase then look at how they jumped suddenly, then jumped again.

The thing that screwed them is the miners, a whole new market which they prioritised over gamers. It allowed them to keep increasing the price of gpus and maintain that price due to stock (supply and demand).

Now obviously AMD is an alternative but they have increased prices because Nvidia have.

I for sure do not want to be paying msrp for a gpu that came out two years ago when the latest is about to hit. I don't know how people justify it. I'm equally baffled at people who refuse to wait 1 to 2 months for all the new tech! Where is the self control??

these tech people who have run out of content could maybe generate some content of their own....

like frying things on a gpu/cpu, trying weird things as thermal paste.. shows how boring they all are sitting around waiting for an easy effortless video to make money off

Lifeofboris tried mayonnaise as thermal paste. His videos are based on doing stupid stuff, a bit of a love or hate character. YT can be thanked for the spam low content videos. It's forced creators to make more and more videos
If the rrp of a 3080 is £649, does that mean realistically the price of a 3080 will not drop below that?

Does that make the current £699 3080's a good deal?

I literally had a 3080 on order from day one but starting at queue 585 kinda sucked.

I'm really unsure to pull the trigger on a 3080 or not.

If you've waited this long, just wait a little more. Stock will have to be shifted. Nvidia have made more than enough money to make up for any losses on all their lines. Planning will already be under way for 5000 line or whatever it's called, they can't afford to not keep design and development going as they have their brand image to sustain and qualified employees to pay.

Will there be £400 3080s come xmas? Anyone's guess as nobody knows what stock is out there still.

It's down to FOMO IMO. Some people are worried the same thing will happen with the 40 series that happened with the 30's, that they'll be out of stock for months or stupidly priced and that, because they'll no longer be getting manufactured, they won't be able to get their hand on a 30 series card once the new cards are released.

From listening to a recent HW news video from GN a few of their contacts have said Nvidia are planning another big price cut just before launch of 40 cards, plus their CEO said in the most recent earnings call that they're going to be manufacturing 30 series cards alongside 40 series, i.e when 4090's are released they'll stop making 3090's but continue making all the other 30 series cards lower down the stack, when 4070's come out 3070 will stop, etc, etc.

Most people are interpreting that as current-gen cards still being available/manufactured after next-gen cards are released. So when the 4080 is released they'll still be making at least 3070's 60's, 50's (possibly even 3080's for a while).

My guess is next-gen cards will launch with a similar MSRP that current-gen launched at, only they'll seem more expensive because current-gen would've seen their MSRP reduced by then (e.g 3090's launch MSRP was $1,700, it's now $1,400. The 4090 will probably have an MSRP close to $1,700).

What he said in full...
Our strategy is to reduce sell-to-sell-in this quarter, next quarter, to correct channel inventory. Obviously, we are out of the highs, and the macro situation has deteriorated sharply. And so, our first strategy is to reduce sales over the next few quarters to correct channel inventory. We have also established programs to price position our current products in preparation for the next generation of products. Ampere is by far the most popular GPU we’ve built. It is in the top 15 most popular gaming GPUs on Steam. And it remains the best GPU in the world, and it will be very successful for some time. However, we have an exciting new next generation coming out and it’s going to be layered on top of that. And so, we’ve taken — we’ve done two things. We have reduced sell-in to correct channel inventory and We have implemented programs with our partners to position the price of products across the channel in preparation for our next generation.

TBF some people want to just get it over with and move on with their lives. I still have my 970 (that I bought at launch) that I was supposed to change out in the launch of this gen. I will admit I am reaching my limits and I just want to get it over with. But my dislike for spending money badly is keeping me from buying.

I know how you feel, it's been at least 3-4 years that I've been wanting to upgrade yet the cost/performance ratio has been appalling compared to 10 years ago.

Damn!! That means a £1k 4080 +AIB premiums..
I don't think we will see pricing the same as 2020, most people eventually have the 3000 series and miners will be selling off there GPU's that's 100 of thousands of 3000 series / 6000 series flooding the 2nd hand market. They will need to bring down the market price of the 3000 series, so if i had to guess :-
  • POS for Etherium is planned to Happen on the 15th Sept
  • Nvidia will want the stock of the 3000 series gone before then and before the 2nd Hand Market floods otherwise they have so much stock they cannot shift, this will further delay the 4000 series
  • We should start to see Retailers lower MSRP of the 3000 / 6000 series from next week onwards before the POS happens
Coincidently NVIDIA are making an announcement just after the 15th, however with the cost of living and global recession on everybody's agenda NVIDIA need to be careful not price themselves too high. TBH i think the current GPU's are disgustingly priced NVIDA/ AMD should be ashamed with themselves for targeting consumers due to supply and demand, almost £1000 for a graphics card which you could get a mid range PC for is an absolute joke.

Checking pricing today
3080TI at £850
3080 is at £699
3070TI at £550

All way too high to justify the cost, i would like to see the 3080/ TI including TI version under £600 before i would buy something like
  • 3070TI £399
  • 3080 £500
  • 3080TI £599
The margin difference is the TI versions or as i call them "tiny improvement" (£200) therefore the 3080 non ti reference would be the best bang for buck as 10gb is plenty or spend £100 more on the TI reference and get 12gb.

It's actually worse than that because in a free market you reduce the price to a point where supply meets demand, in a closed market it may genuinely be more cost effective to stick all your silicon in a warehouse and set fire to it rather than sell it for a price that sells in order to hold price on next seasons stock.

Ok I'm exaggerating a little here in the context of GPUs there are I'm sure more practical alternatives but its exactly the model many luxury fashion brands do... to dispose of stock that was never that expensive to manufacture rather than sell it cheaper and thus 'devalue their brand'.

It is a known business practice and disgusting is the right word for it. Why do you think Jensen doesn't do interviews?

I built my new computer back in 2020 ( 15 10600k, MSI Z490 MAG Tomahawk MOBO, 16gb 3600mhz ram, 850 PSU). Plan was to get a new GPU to play at top level 1440p. However, due to GPU pricing decided to wait as was not willing to pay literally double what the other components cost put together. My 970 which I got near release is still working and can play at 1440p, albeit in some games with most of the setting turned down). I have been tempted to purchase a new card, not to sure which one. Not fussed between brands will just want what will get me best performance. not overly fussed with ray tracing (cant miss it as I cant use it now). However, i have waited 2 years already so i think i can wait a bit longer. benefit is that at least nothing else in my pc will need updating for a while. still unsure on what card to get as different sources give different opinions. However, I want 1440p on the highest settings with a decent FPS for the best price possible. Hoping the current gen of cards does go down as I think the next gen for me will be a bit overkill for what I need. However, pricing and availability could change all this. So at the moment my trusty 8 year old 970 will continue to amaze me

If Nvidia are talking about "layering" the next gen of gpu above the 3000 series I can see a price bump coming for next gen. With extra vram on the next gen cards and inflation I think a price bump is expected. They will hope that those who must have the latest gen will buy the new series at the higher price and appeal to those who want to feel that they are getting value for money with the 3000 series. It will be easier for Nvidia to lower the price of the next gen cards after the 3000 series has sold out if they want to. In the meantime there are reasonable value cards in the current market like the 2060 or 6700 for those building for the first time or replacing a broken card

Thing is selling pretty fast gfx cards now in a fire sale just before the next gen come out could really harm the next gen sales, especially as generally gains between generations are around the 20 per cent mark - ie it really won't make a huge difference. So they'll just keep them as they are most likely.

Bit off-topic but can’t believe Sony raised their price by 40-50 quid for PS5 in UK. Can see it absolutely backfiring, considering, we’re in for a very, very tough winter.

People will just buy Xbox in my opinion - especially with crossplay.

With all that said, hopefully, AMD and Nvidia read the room a bit better in regards to prices, although, of course; they’ll still be an increase as there always is, gen-on-gen.

So more flood if cheap gpus predictions. Been like this for 4 months now.....

Nvidia made a big doo doo because they we're relying on the miners, as crypto mining is crashing there is and will continue to be a big sell off of 3000 series in the 2nd Hand Market. Nvidia were selling pallets of GPU's to Miners but now have an issue with overstock LOL (you have to laugh). What we have is over inflated prices of GPU's with the 4000 series a few months away and they have no idea how to get rid of the stock :D:D. Soooo the only way to shift them is by layering the 4000 series between the 3000 series:D, but to make issues worse for Nvidia they have no option but sell off the 3000 series early otherwise no one will by a brand new GPU especially if they are predicted to be above MSRP add in a new PSU!.

So HOLD buying for another week and check prices daily, i have seen Hot Deals (for today only) but i would not call them hot deals more like these should have been the prices 2 years ago!.

OOOF earlier than the 15th Sept :D :D :D :D :D

Christmas Come early boys

Dave1983 "but i would not call them hot deals more like these should have been the prices 2 years ago!." thats exactly correct. Prices only appear to be going down as they have been so inflated for so long. makes me raise my eyebrows where you see a 6700xt with slashed the price being dropped from £829 to £499 and this called a hot deal, rather than just returning to what it should have been to begin with.

Maybe I am getting cynical in my old age tho as all other industries do exactly the same thing
