• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

When the Gpu's prices will go down ?

They will refine it...

... And keep any extra profits from it
You say that, but they also have another objective: get their Marketshare even lower than the barely viable 12% they currently have.

Therefore - since they are unwilling to play for volume with less margins - that extra profit has to pay for the bigger fixed costs of designing RDNA4.

That is, overall profits well be down but margins up. Apparently this strategy all makes sense in somebody's head!

Or they lower the price because the current sales suck ? And AMD have something better to compete with
Afraid not their MO. They’re likely to raise prices if they have a better performing next gen product. Sometimes not jumping in when the price is right (with current gen 7900 series) can be a mistake in hindsight.

It's all speculation though we don't really know what they'll do next gen in any case I'll start looking at the used market can find some really good deals in the members market here with members also helping with warranty :)

The price isn’t right which is why they have to keep cutting it, they’ve also cocked up their naming which is why they now can’t release a 7800XT and skipped over to a 7600 which they were then forced to price cut 2 days before they even released it. AMDs graphics division is in a mess right now and it’s all their own making.

@Gibbo said the price would go up again on the 7900xt as the rebate ended? Not really aligning with your price cutting theory?

That’s the reality of tech. Prices do drop as the gen progresses. I’m fully expecting £600 by next gen. Also even if prices do drop it’s not the end of the world £50-100 less is OK. I’m enjoying gaming on a beast of a card better than all of Amperes offerings.

If they'll pull a Ryzen, then possible savings will be pocked it by themselves - "they deserve it!", as some would say.
A few things against being smoke to "pull a Ryzen" though:
1) GPUs are immensely parallel meaning there is less scope for a clever design to be substantially cheaper to make.
2) Yes, going chiplets could disrupt this but only by so much.
3) Unlike Intel, media seldom misstep.
4) Gor some reason AMD's Radeon group not longer cares about marketshare.
5) GPUs are inherently parallel meaning it is unlike a smaller design - no matter how clever - can outperform a larger die.

Yes, I know #1 and #5 are almost the same but I though it important as the big advantage of Zen is that the cores have far better perf/ transistor than Intel's (and if server buyers weren't so conservative, Intel's server marketshare would be under 30% - even if that might mean AMD ship next to no desktop products just to supply server).
.
I do not expect any similar cost disruptive Radeon part.

Without going too much into technicalities, I was simply saying that further possible inovations that reduce cost won't (most likely), translate into lower prices.

I hope I'm wrong and current prices are just a result of a simple bullwhip effect and too much stock of old gen hardware which prevented better pricing for newer stuff (so they don't lose too much on what has already been made). we'll see.
