When was the last time the gov did something in the interest of the people?

the occasional tax cut, and pretty much nothing else.
this is why you should vote tory, labour won't be cutting any taxes so it'll be just pure nothing done.
UK tax burden at highest ever.

Every time you use healthcare. Every time you child goes to (a non-independent) school. Every time you drive on a road. Countless things. Brainless question.

Waiting lists at 8 million, schools built with dodgy concrete, and roads filled with pot holes. A grand job after 13 years in power.

Brainless reply to the question more like. Which government in particular implemented those things in the interest of the people?

So you want even higher taxes?

Regardless are they due to policy failures or mismanagement and poor levels of service within the actual delivery organisations?

NHS waiting lists at record levels. Unable to get my child into a local school. Damage to my car due to potholes. Next?

I think there are a few very good civil servants that don't just pander to the politicians in charge who make genuine improvements to the area they are in charge of. And I have no doubt that many MPs do some great work on an individual level.

I'm somewhat surprised the government hasn't banned working from home as that has been a big improvement to many lives.

OK, energy price guarantee. What's the comeback on that one? Disclaimer, I don't even like this conservative govt.

They sent those big boats to Israel so that when the world comes to its senses and realises it was on the wrong side, the Navy can prevent genocide in Gaza. Thanks Tories

RE: energy price guarantee - the electricity market functions massively advantageously to energy companies. For consumers, it's awful. They should fix it, but they choose not to.

Lack of investment in traditional energy such as more nuclear station and more gas storage to overcome price fluctuations. If they had done that then energy prices would not be so high in the first place and wouldn't have needed a cap.

The cap was a sticking plaster to hide the lack of planning and investment in previous years. But it was sold as the government being nice to the people and was ultimately paid for by the people in taxes anyway. It was just an attempt to hide their incompetence.

Think I'll back out of this old man yells at cloud thread...

Mixed feelings on this - protected some individuals, which is clearly in the interest of 'the people' but by using their tax funds to pay the rest of their bill for them, without really even attempting to tackle the root of the energy crisis / profiteering issues, which doesn't feel quite so 'in their interest'.

The government here these days never does a random act of kindness.

They are either pressured by lobby groups, or even they realise they are stretching society to hard.

There never seems to be a time when out of the blue for no reason at all the government gives the people something.

We've still got a government with a Victorian era mind set.

Nonsense, the Victorians were actually forward thinking.... schools, industry, banking, public parks, greenspaces, public buildings. Yes it was still screw the poor but they also built for the middle.
