When was the last time the gov did something in the interest of the people?

Since 2010, not really anything ”for the people”. For “some people” maybe but nothing they absolutely didn’t have to do and certainly nothing I’d consider a positive societal change. UK politics has gone all USA, all mouth and no trousers. The divisionist bonkers claptrap of the last few years shows that. It’s lazy and takes no talent.

You’ll have to go back further….national minimum wage (circa 2000 and something) for my money.

Genuine question, all I see all over the news and social media is how evil and incompetent our gevernment are and based on the info I have, I am inclined to agree.

That said, a government exists to serve the people, right? So can anyone name some things that the gov has done to benefit us?

HS2 was meant to be a big one but obvs they filled all the right pockets so scrapped it, what else?

The outcome wasn't good but there was furlough payments during Covid, contribution towards utility bills. About all I can think of.

People in the middle ground like me have been ******** constantly with nothing ever given back no improvements only cut backs and sticky plasters.

Yup.

I reckon I'm in that same boat as middle ground, PAYE, pay all the taxes and standard of living decreases whilst the rich get richer and the poor get a free pass.

OK, energy price guarantee. What's the comeback on that one? Disclaimer, I don't even like this conservative govt.

I don't think you can have that one either.

Short term thinking and lack of investment into our power generation has led to the energy price crisis in the first place.

Rely on cheap gas from Russia, what could possibly go wrong?

And all those wind turbines you see, AHH those will save us, apart from nope, we don't own those either, they are all granted to private investors and watch them milk the **** out of the British public, whilst some MP grabs a nice backhander. But it's all in the name of the environment right?

10p tax rate was labour right ? plus, they accelerated the personnel allowance rate.
Then the same Labour Party abolished it :D
gimmick or not, Tories promise a lot of things and deliver nothing.
Who then the Tories raised the starting rate to £11K so effectively cutting the people who were paying 10% to 0. It was the Tories that cut that tax to nothing

That wasn't the question, the question was when did they ever cut taxes, not was it effective or did it work. We could pick apart every supposed Tory tax cut too.

Nothing at all. Greedy, evil and corrupt serpents, the lot of them...

We are cattle to the elites. That's why it makes me laugh when there are 100 page threads on here full of angry people saying "my politician is better than your politician"... No, you fools. They're all ***** and they're all in the same club.

I don’t think that’s fair. Theres plenty of politicians who listen and try to do what’s best for their constituents. Unfortunately, it’s often the worst politicians who are most in the news and are the ones who get into positions of real power.

Thinking that all politicians are greedy and corrupt serpents is, ironically, what makes voting for one seem palatable.

Not everyone is a victim like you appear to be..

The sad thing is, we are just a country of two parties. Conservatives and labour. If you watch the BBC they will make it seem like labour are ‘winning’ at the moment whilst statistically what is actually happening is conservative voters are dropping like flies but these same voters aren’t actually then voting labour.

They just aren’t voting.

There is a massive sense of complete pointlessness to the whole political system.

Something radical needs to change and one day it will. But for now, labour will get into power through the sheer disillusionment of the voting public and not because of some sweeping popular vote the likes of which got Tony Blair into the hot seat.

You only have to listen to 5 mins of talk radio shows like LBC to see how dreadful things are - people just bicker and argue over semantics, he said she said, what aboutism, needless woke agendas and professional victimhood.

it needs someone - someone who is genuinely proud of this wonderful country and its past to grow a pair, look at the country and say - ‘screw you lot, I’m doing whats best for this country because I care for this country and it’s people and wont pander to your nonsense anymore’ - its The UK and it’s people first, always.

I'm still amazed people turn up every 4 years or whatever and put a tick in a box for what they know will be a ****show.
I've never voted for any of them and never will because from a teenager and listening to older workers, it was as though it was a big game with no real winners, whoever got in everybody would be moaning.
I also find the statement "If you don't vote you don't deserve a say" very childish, I pay my taxes so I deserve to say how **** they are.
I wouldn't give any of them dog poo from under my shoe.
