Where is my mojo?

For months now I've been looking at and driving cars with a view to getting back into something special. I'm in a place where I can get something really nice, but I can't get excited, I seem to have lost my mojo and frankly I am perplexed. I sat here for 2 hours last night scanning different cars (I do it many many nights), trying to stimulate myself into buying something. Porsches, R8's, M's, RS's, Astons even Ferrari's and Lambo's (within reason) and over the last few weeks I've driven pretty much all of them. Some really appeal, some are frankly fantastic but I seem unable/unwilling to buy something. I can't put my finger on it but last night I had a real meh fest and ended up slapping down the lid on my computer and going to bed in a huff and couldn't sleep as I was so annoyed.

I fear I might be broken. I fear I have lost my mojo. Can I buy some drugs or something that get's it back, go to a place and get some water on me from one of those gurus in a smokey room with a turban? The worry is I've been in this place for nearly 18 months and I still have a 75K miles 5 series diesel. I fear it's an age thing, but my dad is 73 (looks 50 the b'stard) and drives a 911 so that makes it even worse. My mum hates cars, perhaps I am turning into my mum. I even found myself pricing up tow bars the other day so I could tow my race car, but even that is sat in the garage and I can't be arsed to get it sorted so I can drive it.

The fact I have a 5 series still really worries me, I could be turning into Fox and that really scares me, he likes trains too so that really worries me, I get excited at steam trains but I don't know much about maths so that gives me some comfort. How does one fix this mongism?

Sports cars are fairly dull, this is the problem. They generally have poor quality interior plastics, un-carpeted door bins and sub standard infotainment systems. The future lies with one car to conquer them all.

The future lies with an F10 M5.

What are you getting back in to something special for?

Because I like to Euro hoon on some occasions and I like the enjoyment of the open road and getting up at 4am on a Sunday once in a while and just going west into Wales and finding roads empty of people and cars where motoring is at it's finest. A 5 series and MX5 don't give me the buzz I crave, certainly not enough to get my out of bed at 4am, but neither did my RS4 come to think of it. GT3 did, so did my M's and Griff.

The M5 is ace, the 5 is ace but we both know that. It is the finest proper all round car in the world in my book, said it before and will say it again. However, it's just 'some car' in M5 form just some very fast car. I am doing very few business miles these days, maybe 3000 a year so don't need a mile muncher really.

Sounds like you need a holiday, somewhere without internet :p

Aye, a beach and babes should get him going again...

I'm busy with business which is perhaps a distraction but don't think a holiday will fix me. I've had quite a bit of holiday time in the last 12 months actually, more than I usually have come to think of it.

Surely an M6 in some form is a better option over an M5. A higher quality interior and doesn't blend in with the drones of 518/520d rep saloons.

An M car isn't special enough, frankly. I've been looking at 991 and 997 C2S's and I know they are great but I don't find them catching me. The GT3 of course would, but they are overpriced and due an adjustment in my book and most out there seem a bit ropey at the lower end. There are over 45 991 GT3's on PH right now I believe (not checked) so that bubble is due to pop soon too. GT4 would work too but I will not pay overs and the list is still long so that is a pure wait and see if I get a friend offer one up. Porsche Sutton didn't even want a discussion and Solihull have gone quiet on the new numbers.

Same age as me then.

Joking aside you get to a point where you don't feel the need to willy wave with the latest toy. I kept my previous car 8 years and assuming nothing expensive goes wrong with my current one its a long term keeper as well (X-Type estate and now an XJ for reference).

My advice: Treat your lack of mojo as a sign that your are wise enough to know to wait for the right one. Nothing is forcing you to buy *now*, so why stress yourself into a decision you know isn't right.

*EDIT* Yes I know this attitude is a ban from motors :)

It's probably because you've owned some of the cars that have ticked your boxes and you're not bothered about anything else?

Do some track days? Go on a big road trip?

Go for something completely left field like an american muscle car?

My preference is for tight, agile good handling cars with a great NA engine, which is why GT3's etc appeal greatly. I do like the R8 V10, but that is a different beast and I do like the Gallardo SL and 360 Strad but both the latter are probably more than I want to spend. I did think about an Exige but that isn't something to load up a weeks load of bags and head down to Italy in really and is too compromised. I love the look of the new one but same problem I fear. American Muscle cars don't hold any appeal, just not me at all and all are blunt instruments, if very quick.
