bitlord, but i havn't looked around in ages, also a bit concerned with privacy, so keen to hear about peerguardian and the likes.

utorrent puts a lot of strain on my router and my whole network slows down, and internet browsing becomes really slow, even if download speeds aren't that high.
I've tinkered with settings but still, slow.

with Azureus the strain is on the computer. takes up huge amount of resources, but everyone else on the network is happier, and interent browsing is faster.

so basically we need someone to make a program thats a compromise between the 2.

limit the uploads in utorrent

if you have say a 512kb connection, then 7-9kb/s upload is about the max you can do without noticing a speed dip, and you can download at max speed (~55kb/s) when uploading at 7

It is Comodo causing it - I have the windows firewall service disabled.
I've opened the port but not sure what else I need to do.
Which protocol do I need to open the port for?

Fixed it - the default 'block all unless otherwise stated' rule for network activity was above the rule for my port.
Moved the open port rule above it and it's sorted! :)

I have a 1mbps upload.
and i set the upload at 30kbps.

But the problem is not just web browsing, trying to get to the router page takes AAAGES.
and when i switched utorrent off the router page came up normally. so i was guessing that that was the problem.

but I'll try the limiting upload thing because i do prefer it to azureus

uTorrent :)
I was a big fan of Azureas but dropped it right away the moment I tried a recent build of the client. It's so feature packed compared to the earlier versions.

azureus is most featured, and very good, but uses quite some resources.
utorrent took crown from az , uses no more as 1mb of ram and 1% cpu, has pretty much all features but one or 2 az has.
Im still using az but will move to utorrent soon.

uTorrent
(This is your editor's favorite torrent tool. uTorrent is also known as "micro torrent". It has all the functions a torrent downloader will ever need, yet it requires less than 1 MB of hard drive space and memory. uTorrent strives to give you all the downloading and seeding performance of its competitors, but with minimal impact to the rest of your computer's speed. Outstanding performance for its size and price.)

Azureus
(A Java language client; was considered "king" of the torrent programs until uTorrent software came along and took that crown away.)

ABC
(Another very popular Torrent client)

TurboBT
(Nice-looking GUI appearance with this package)

BitComet
(Good, but losing popularity to uTorrent and Azureus)

The Original BitTorrent Client
(Authored by Bram Cohen himself; no fancy GUI here, but it downloads quickly.

There is no "faster" client really, it depends entirley how they are setup. The most obvious thing that limits your Torrent download speed is XP SP2 itself, since it limits TCP connections to 10. This can easily be fixed with a proggy like Tuneup and there are various patches out there.

Do you use a Netgear DG834G Router by any chance?

I also use Utorrent and notice it makes the router slow.
