If the Mondeo is the new shaped one - I'd go for the Mondeo hatch, unless I needed the use of the estate, in which case I'd go for the Mondeo estate.

Don't choose the Passat, especially in S trim

You are picking a business tool not a drive ornament. It's how it drives and what its like inside that matters. So you dont want a poverty spec VW.

LX has cruise etc yes - everything you need basically. The Vectra has the most powerful engine, the VW's are for badge snobs as they are bottom of the range.

Cruise was standard on facelift mk3's so you never know. The 407 defo has cruise as from ~55 plates even the S does

I understand where you're coming from however if it was me i'd prefer aesthetics to also be a defining factor.
