Which company car?

Mondeo should be the new 140 variant, they dont do a 130 now, so it's not different enough to put up with the Vectras numerous other failings and the fact Club specification is *** suxor.

One of the worst things about it is the seatbelt etc starting sequence.

what, start the car, put your seat belt on and drive away?

seems better than a manual handbrake? Worst case scenario, dont put your seat belt on, press brake and press handbrake button? again, no worse than a manual brake?

s it perhaps its a hire care, and thus alien? You really do grow to prefer it - especially with auto-hold (drive to a junction, brake to a stop - handbrake engages, foot off brake, then just pull away - handbrake disengages.

does yours have the "Auto-hold" button near the gear stick? Have to say the 2 combined have been the best addition to a workhorse i've used in a long time.

Autohold EffTeeDoubleYou.
My Passat is an 06 and love it to bits. Its the most comfortable drive I've driven. Automatic gearbox (DSG) does help as well ;)

Driving on the job is literally a pleasure now.

A pleasure? In a Passat 1.9 105 S? What did you drive before, a Metro?

I think Cav drives a 140 2.0. but lets not go down the 105PS route fox, when basically i think you're wrong ;) (with 20k mileage of evidence under my belt)

Pugster is right.
Ive also clocked 20k miles on it as well (19.7k miles (less 200 miles when I first purchased it).

I may sell it before the manufacturers warranty period is up to get myself something else. Audi or BMW perhaps.

Or possibly the Passat CC :)

Are you trying to say that because a 105ps Passat has managed to cover 20k miles (i dont see where Fox has disputed that they are able to move under their own power) that they are good cars? They are rubbish!

Laguna and Passat both had electronic parking brakes - replaces handbrake with an electronic thing. Auto disengages when you pulled away. Really good.

I had the pleasure of using one of those on a company pool car.. I was curious to see what happened if you pressed it when moving... A sweet handbrake turn LOL.

???

System doesn't allow you to engage the parking brake when going over a certain speed, certantly not quickly enough to do a handbrake turn, or thats what the ones i had do anyways.

How odd, mine doesn't engage over anything above snails pace.

And on the subject of snails pace - the 140 Passat is dog slow imo so what the 105 version is like to drive I shudder to think.

The Passat is about as exciting as a packet of digestive biscuits and about as rewarding as snorting dandruff.

I was going about 10-15 mph, it wasn't an actual handbrake turn either, that was just me exaggerating, It was still enough to make the back of the car step out with me pointing at about 45degrees in the wrong direction (probably as I wasn’t expecting it to work)!

My next question was going to be what if you tapped it on the motorway accidentally but of course that would be stupid if it allowed you to do that.

From that list I'd say the Vectra.

Had one as my last company car & to be fair it was a comfy enough place to soak up the miles. No thrills, but was reliable & the 150 should give you reasonable pace.

Also depends on how much tax you want to spend on it, this site http://www.comcar.co.uk/ will give you all the costs.

Back end of the car shouldn't come out because it has ESP and ABS, the back wheels won't lock and won't cause a slide, i don't think you can put the handbrake on anything faster than 5mph.

Perhaps you can confirm Merlin and do a test.......

What speed though as I was definately going over 5mph. How would ABS be able to work if a handbrake has been applied?

I'll try and go out in it again at some point and do a more definitive test in a McD carpark ;)

I don't know what speed the button dies at, not sure - I just know you can't buttonbrake my Passat - lord knows I've tried.
