Which fan?

Sorry, I've looked at several reviews and none give Arctic 33 a performance rating of better than mediocre at best. We need to keep in mind these review sites depend on companies giving them free samples to test, so very few review sites say a cooler is bad. We need interpret what is called 'average' as actually being poor .. becuase they almost never give a poor rating. Also keep in mind reviews done in a case system using room air temp are extremely inaccurate. Reason being the air temp into cooler is not the same as room. All they give us is how the review system performs with different coolers. I don't know about you but I don't care how their test systems performs with different coolers. I only what to know how well each cooler performs against other coolers. To do that we at lest have to be monitoring/recording the air temp into cooler and CPU temp at same time, then assuming the air temp into cooler is similar (+/-2c) use them to a delta temp to compare cooler performance.

Yeah, NH-U12S is a good little cooler .. overpriced compared to others with similar or better performance like Matterhorn Pure I suggested above. Matterhorn is better than H7 which is better than Hyper 212 which is better than Arctic 33.

Arctic 33 is a terrible cooler.

When tested on Ryzen 7 1700 Arctic 33 was 99.6c (failed test), Hyper 212 was 86.3c and NH-U12S was 87.7c. Hyper 212 and U12S are mid-level coolers at best (top tier like Dark Rock Pro 4 was 77.6c, NH-U14S was 79c and Reeven Ouranos was 79.9c).

If you want a good £30-35 cooler, the Alpenfohn Matterhorn Pure for £33.95 is one of the best.

That isn't really a fair assessment According to that review they ran the chip at 1.475 volts @ 3.9ghz so it's not surprising the small cooler failed. You'd kill your chip in no time with that voltage.

every other review I've seen says it is a good little cooler. The newer 34 is quieter. If you are running a stock system it is a quieter upgrade over the wraith box coolers.

To be fair you need to look at it logically and stop trying to start arguments.

The Arctic 33 is simply not as good a cooler as many other coolers of similar price and size .. like Hyper 212, H7, Matterhorn Pure, etc.

It doesn't matter what chip or voltage is being used .. or how long/short the chip's life will be. It's all about watts of heat and how well the cooler can dissipate that heat .. and Arctic 33 is simply not as good as it's competition.

Besides, HardOCP is not the only review site publishing results that show Arctic 33 is simply not as good a cooler as others in it's price group.

it is an ok cooler. You would't run that amount of voltage on a ryzen chip so testing it at that voltage is not applicable for day to day temps. I'd have one over a 212

testing at full rpm with prime 95 isn't indicitive of how you generally use a computer. how the cooler performs in the low to mid range rpm is where it usually sits. If all you do is run prime 95 then no it isn't a good cooler.

is it the best cooler - no but it is quiet and better than stock and the new 34 is better.

I can see both points of view, I am willing to spend more than that to be honest, it will be cooling a 2600x at stock settings and all I'm interested in is that it will hold boost clocks for longer whilst being quieter than the standard cooler

I think I'm just going to see what the standard wraith is like first but knowing me it won't be long before I get the itch to change it, I really like things to match and i ordered the Arctic fans based on the help and advice in this thread hence my interest in the 33

Ill be looking at 140mm fan single tower coolers I think unless there is a 120mm cooler that stands out, probably around the £50 mark

I have a Thermalright Macho revB on my 2700x, best cooler iver ever owned, seriously quiet and keeps a 4.2 all core boost under 65c. The majority of the time(games) it sits at most 55c and doesnt make a sound. Best £45 ive spent to be honest.

KitGuru shows Mugen 5 with 2x 800rpm fans only 2c warmer than the 33 with 1800rpm fan. Performance PSU doesn't give any comparisons. Tomshardware has it as worst of what they've tested.

Indicative or not, it's simply not as good as others in it's price range.

Macho Rev.B onr new Rev.C are very good. Probably the best in the £50 range is TRUE Spirit 140 Power if it will fit in your case and on your motherboard .. because it is 171mm tall and 150mm wide. ;)
