HDR vs ray tracing is completely pointless debate. it's like arguing over which is better, anisotropic filtering or backlight strobing. one is a display specification, the other is a rendering technique.

which is better, the the colour blue or tuesdays? elephants or immanuel kant's "groundworks of the metaphysics of morals"?
:D lol!

I've no doubt there is better than what i have (Samsung CRG90 5120x1440)

But, it still is a massive upgrade from a non HDR display.

I also need a display that can sit on a desk, to be used for browsing and working with multiple Excel spreadsheets etc. Ultra wide is great for that.

You keep telling yourself that :)
I use my TV for everything.

It's okay, i could tell by your reaction without even looking at your post.

People may vote one way or the other, even if they've not tried both like some of us have.

And you know what, that's okay as it's just an opinion at the end the day. Nothing to lose sleep over.

There you go again, getting bent out of shape assuming you know what poeple have/have not seen. Come and look at my 77 inch C9 in the living room

Did you change back to LtMatt from AMDMatt because you can't stay objective enough.

My reaction? reply was to your ridiculous biased assumption. To me as an owner of both that can comment.

They are both good when implemented properly - I said why I gave Ray-tracing my vote. I didnt start with the "90% of ray tracing voters haven't seen HDR", that was all you getting bent out of shape because they didn't agree with you. ;)

I don't know which is better because you can't get proper HDR on PC monitors for a reasonable price and so I've never seen it. The lazy monitor industry need to sort it out.

6 inches.. maybe 5.8? ;)
On a warm day. :D

That's it, let it all out dear.

If it looks worse in HDR then some of the settings must be wrong on the TV.
HDR gaming on pc has been pretty decent for a long while now.
Remember as soon as you switch to HDR all the TV settings will reset to default. Not all games use the same gamma and this has to be set right as well as the colour pallet and also backlight has to be turned right up.
As soon as you change the gamma all the paper white and everything needs re adjustment. HDTest has a video on nearly every game showing how to set it best.
Never heard of HDtest will take a look. As I said before Destiny looks great in HDR but Division 2 the black levels are wrong, all washed out and dull. It looks massively worse in HDR and no matter what I do I cannot get it to work correct. You know how washed out the screen goes when you set RGB to limited. That is how HDR Division 2 looks for a lot of people. Even though its on RGB full it feels and looks like RGB limited.

“I wonder who is voting Ray Tracing? I feel they either did not understand the question or have not seen what proper HDR looks like.”
I could say the same for Ray Tracing. It feels like people don’t understand the question and have not seen proper ray tracing in motion. Ideally you want both but if I had to choose it would be Ray Tracing all the way.

Whole premise of the thread was baited towards AMD regardless and to make a point of Ray Tracing Vs HDR, both completely different but thread was done so in a fashion to highlight the fact AMDs weakness in RT is a moot point because we have HDR, AMD shills/fans need only apply.

Yeah, I did notice this also. Not sure if he did it conscientiously or unconscientiously :p

Either way I always answer it as it is. Right now as it is a OLED with a game that offers HDR offers a bigger leap in image quality vs the best RT game available imo.

Who buys HDR with only 1000 nits?

Exactly, you just buy a OLED :D

Ouch! Lol :p:D

Well I have seen both (own hardware for both) and that is my opinion. With time as we get better implementations of RT in games my opinion will chance. But right now with what is available HDR hands down for me.

I completely agree you want both. Good thing is, I do (well when I take my PC downstairs and connect to my OLED for 4K 120Hz proper HDR goodness) :D

Let's see what Cyberpunk brings to the table.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/z9d

seems like only 1600 nits on a 10% window with all the negatives of LCD.

pretending it’s better than OLED

:D
Bias mate bias, we all have it to some degree. Some more than others :p

OLED is where it is at ;)
