Which MMO...?

I however have very little respect for games like Warhammer Online, which was an awful game, it didn't even do what Warcraft did, it's a shame, because the Warhammer IP is a truly fantastic one that has been ruined for a long time.

I'm not sure thats true. At least Warhammer tried a new twist on the forumula, instead of the enless MMO's (like LotRO) which just did a copy & paste of WoW.

The core of the game idea was sound, they've just made some terrible mistakes in terms of the game mechanics, many of which aren't really fixable. I don't think they were trying to "do what Warcraft" did, because its primarily a RvR/PvP game, whereas WoW is firmly in the PvE sector. Different strokes.

I'm losing a lot of faith in Blizzard due to their systematic destruction of WoW, its not a patch on "Vanilla".

The problem with Sandbox MMO's is that they lack direction, so people can get bored when there isn't a set "goal"

Like EvE, for example - I think thats one reason that I struggle with it, in that it lacks any real direction. They're trying to improve on it, by adding mission arcs, but you just get chucked into this well established world, but you just don't know what to do, or where to go....

Games like WoW are pretty linear as far as MMO's go. Set quest lines, you only real options are what zones to quest in....and I think people like that.

Thing is...it never used to be that way. People had no problem in UO setting their own goals and coming up with their own ideas.

Sadly now, people seem to lack the creativity and ability to think for themselves. They have to be told what to do instead.

I don't agree with that. Those gamers where always there

Just wow took what EQ had and made if for the masses improved on the best bits and made if open to a wider range of gamers.

Those Creative people are still there waiting for a game that might not ever come. Iv been mmo hoping ever since swg cu. I just find today's mmo's boring after a few weeks months. It's just a time sink and a quest to get the best gear that will never end. (dog chasing his tail, he never catch it)

It's a shame that any new mmo that comes out is straight away compared to WoW and then labeled a failure

UO : Hybrid
Free shard pub16 ruleset. has an intersting donation system and a strong community (generally around 800-1k people online at any given time which is more than europa had when i last played OSI servers) which has kept it going for years.
Having recently gone back to it from scratch with a good friend of mine were both having a lot of fun.

after looking at your list of all the mmos you have played there is one that always sticks out...Neocron

truely epic mmo in its time, i wont go into all the great ideas and innovations it brought to the genre but if they had a company like blizzard to polish it i would sign up for a lifetime sub or at the very least 12 months.

its free to play atm due to paypal problems but nothing has changed so dont expect anything new just good old nostalgic feelings.

Cool, another Neocron fan! :D

Used to love this game but our clan moved to EVE when we all got into Beta, used to love playing this game. It was buggy as hell and if it got released today in this state then it'd get ripped to pieces, but to me it had a unique character and I used to love it.

If it's actually FTP I think I'm going to check it out again. Hope my Characters haven't been deleted, but if the bugs were anything to go by my account from 2003 should still be there :p

Well it was a generalised 'people' I was using, rather than specifics. On the whole, when applied to the majority, I believe my post was valid. Obviously though there will be some to who it doesnt apply.

Neocron a fpsmmo right?

Neocron a fpsmmo right?

after a fashion yeah :)

Think it uses a quake style engine for the gfx. I used to love it, but there wasn't really any quests/missions etc, it was just unrestricted pvp for resource control once you got out of Neocron city itself.

If you have not played it before, jump on guild wars, you can buy the lot from some places for £24 and it's free to play after the initial purchase!

Or just FPS, FPS, FPS, till the end of time!
