Which MMORPG are you looking forward to?

Jumpgate Evolution here too, it's going to be different, if nothing else.

I'll probably end up trying the old republic too, but I don't like the heavily storylined direction they're going in.

Other than that, there's absolutely nothing on the horizon that looks even vaguely original or interesting. Bummer :(

Edit - forgot about the Warhammer 40K mmo in development. It's still a few years away though, with very little info on what it's like.

My sentiments exactly !

It's the only genre I know of that's gone resolutely backwards since it began.

It hasn't really gone backwards it has just moved in a direction you don't like. It seems that the market is quite limited for sandbox style games for example so that niche is either already filled or just not seen as viable.

+1

I cant wait for this i hope its going to be good. I'm a massive fan of the show and been waiting for this for ages!

i was hugely looking forward to it, then I read its based on one specific time, which is after series 8 and before series 9 i think. Which I think is gonna kill it, the story and enemies from the earlier series were immense, the writing was brilliant, the idea's new, everything about it was great. The later series, the enemy , the war, it was not quite crap, but it was awful comparitively. It still could be very good but meh, maybe not at all. I think its also going to be based around Atlantis which also, unfortunately sucks with a horrible "enemy" to fight. I just get the distinct feeling its going to be writen along the same lines as current Atlantis which is so bad I haven't watch it in two years, as opposed to going back to the better style of the early years.

As for Darkfall, apparently sales online every evening this week for a limited time. No idea what time though, evening could mean anything, but I guess as they are expecting everyone to go online as soon as they get it by selling maybe 500/1000 copies a day they can see which day the servers start to get bogged down and can stop sales pretty easily. I'm still tempted, mostly through boredom and I guess eventually hacking will be fixed and new servers will come out, will treat it kind of as a beta, not to seriously and not caring to much. Then when numbers are better, less bugs, no cheating I'll start afresh on a new server.

Something like the original UO with a little more structure could be interesting. Being able to just pick 7 skills you want to max (or more you were happy to have at a lower level for some utility) could be rather good.

I still play WoW fairly heavilly (have done since beta tho a little less interested atm having cleared all the content lots) so in no rush to try anything new yet.

What a strange, stupid thing to say. There is not a scoreboard (besides the bounty board system in UO and similar, but in a general sense) in MMO's, people make their own personal goals, aims and objectives. Someone who plays a MMO for 10 hours a day doesn't necessarily enjoy it any more than someone who plays for a couple, or less. Nobody is first, second or last - People are just enjoying the game in their own way.[/QUOTE]
play silkroad online and you will see
....padawan:)

WoW only takes a small amount of time to be fully farmed and fully capped, silkroad online takes months and months, without a bot probably a couple of years, then you need sosun items(the best),thenm you have to "pimp" those items that again takes real money to do.... then to be of the top 10% in the server which costs billions of gold which is impossible to get through ingame trading,so what people do now is buy gold online with real money which raises the prices of items in game...i have 5 lv 80- accounts on silkroad and stopped playing due to the massive bot problem which has killed its economy but it is still a great game.....i think it is the best mmo out there and definitely the most expensive to to be good at...i dunno about you but you sound like one of those people that stand there in "awe" at a character ingame admiring his weapons.items etc...well for me i dont like being in second place....thats why i spent over £2000 kitting out 1 character of mine(glavier 80 cap) with SoSun(seal of sun) weapons and equipment then pimping it over a course of 4-6 months! This has its benefits like chasing down multiple traders and robbing all of them single handedly, then when the traders call for backup..ie:hunters,i kill all the hunters too and then gain a massive "wanted" by the law stat....the list goes on and on....word gets around and you become one of the most feared and respected characters on the whole server, not to mention killing all at pvp!Thats why i said if you want to be one of the best then mmos suck as they take a lot of time and are expensive to play, but if you want to play like you do(being second place in pvp and admiring others then your fine carrying on with what your doing

yeah for me, spending £2k on kit is essentially cheating. You got kit you didn't manage to get in game yourself so you could kill other people, without said kit you could not kill other people, other people don't have said kit so have no chance against you.

HOnestly, couldn't care less, I prefer a game where I don't have to "cheat" to have a chance of winning against any other player in the game.

its not cheating...everyone does it on that game...the economy is ruined because of bots..and yeah i have plenty of money so 2k was nothing to me as it was my first and last mmo, some people on there had spent a lot more than that, double ,tripple the amount cause of multiple characters which they owned...i was more annoyed with the time needed to play to be in the top 10%...anyhow ill never play another mmo again....the next game i devote a lot of time to will be Battlefield 3! patietly waiting to buy on the day of release....

Oh yeah i forgot to say that once i had killed all on the server i got bored so i sold my SoSun+7 glavie to a girl in belgium for 1100 euro at the time(£750) and i also have 4 lv80 chars chinese and 1 lv 80 euro char with 1million sp!(took me 2 months to farm this with softmod...0x33...)i also have 1.8 billion in gold for taxi players up to there desired level...so i could sell all these which i intend to do when i can be bothered...i will have lost no money or very little by the time i sell all of this :-)

How sad. Do you not have anything else in your life that is worth doing other than play this?

You cant even say that you are that good and admired by other players for your skill (More pity if you ask me) at it either as you had to buy your stuff and not earn it. Which in most eyes makes you someone with too much money and no sense what so ever. And a very sad man. I actually feel sorry for you. :(

By the way, it is cheating and you can not convince anyone other than yoruself that everyone spends 2k on a silly little game. Please snap back into the real world.

i have not played that game since 2007....dont bother feeling sorry for me as i have a very very good life, better than most people..thx for your concern though:)if you are still feeling sorry for me you can come and polish my tool for me if it makes you feel any better... LoL

oh yeah i do have too much money and absolutely no sense whatsoever, your absolutely bang on..muahahaha

wow.... Talk about big headed :p

On topic of the 2k real money into game is cheating. Theres no skill to having to lash out money for kit. It doesnt matter what context you put it in you have put no skill or effort into earning the weapons or whatever in that game. All you have done is thrown money at it and then gone ZOMG I AM THE BEST !

I guess for you that was the whole point. You know large e-peen and all

I'm not judging btw thats just my thought on the matter. End of the day if you was happy to lash the money out and had fun with it who cares its a hobby you had an interest in and you spent money on it.

To all the people that are saying OMG 2k on a game SAD LIFE ! get over yourselves. People spend money on what they enjoy be that a game, a new car, new bits for a PC, a new t-shirt or anything.

*awaits "yea but its sad that its a game he has spent money on !!!"

I hope for another game like Anarchy Online because for me, it has been the best and most fun experience in an MMO or online game -period-.

The thing with that game is that it filtered out a lot of the sorts of people you don't want in an MMO. WoW is rife with too many idiots and it's all time=reward instead of skill=reward, whilst of course some time must be spent, just not like wow....no.

AO was very much skill based but not only that it wasn't "hit x level and equip" item you had to raise the correct stats and that meant you could equip items at a much higher level than you, which brought in twinking where you had to find very rare items to wear in say your glove slot and boots slot to raise stamina high enough to wear a headslot that needed that extra skill.

So much so were talking 10's apon 10's of items and buffs(unlike buffs in wow which are unlimited) buffs in AO take up "slots" which you can increase through more items so, the whole ordeal to get on Level 200 armour at level 75 was gruelling but very very rewarding and forfulling :) They did introduce caps later on to stop it getting too stupid.

It's a very steep learning curve but it helped found a lot of stuff found in wow, in simple /commands and keybinds are the same.

Need another mmo in the sci-fi universe which has a lot more noggin use :)

Stargate & Star-trek online look like temporary fun but nothing lasting.
Warhammer almost broke the chain and got me out of wow but, nobody I knew played it but it's still a game I'll go back to in the future.
I hope the new Star Wars mmo will be amazing but not taking too much from wow.

It's more that he spent so much money to be the best at it, like it actually mattered or something

Well it did it mattered to him :p

Personally I think this idea of money for kit/in game money is terrible. I'm not really aguring with you buddy. I just feel end of the day its his money his hobby. If he feels spending 2k on the game to become the best is worthwhile great !

Ive never heard of this silkroad game (or whatever it is called) so I cannot really comment on the system. But Real money into Game Money is a fail system. But thats my opinion. :D

Made my decision, EQ for me. Will play an enchanter on AB until the progress server starts up and then roll a dwarf pally called Thorskin just like my first ever char. When DAoC origins comes out i may well move to that. No way im getting involved with Darkfall the whole release has been farcical and i have no hope of them pulling it out of the bag.

Cancelling lotro sub I think. I feel MMO's are pretty much just playing dress up with dolls with msn chat stuck on the side, in fact kind of girly all round actually, but without the girls :D
