Reading all of it puts it in better context and showing what MS is trying to do, basically they have to keep discs ATM, but it is all digital. Which explains why you have to be a registered retailer etc.
Reading all of it leaves me with the same impression, jumps far too much between commenting on what MS are doing to what Yusef Mehdi thinks will happen in a fully digital, disc-free download only world. Hard to draw any substantial conclusion, well one that I would be happy to debate.

To be honest I wouldnt even highlight that bit as it reads like hyperbole in isolation, the whole of that needs to be digested.

ps3ud0

Correct. If you need more space you will need to use an external drive. PS4 has a standard upgradable drive though.

Any external drive? Or the MS branded super expensive hard drive?

Either rate is a poor decision.

With this and the fact that you need to buy a new headset I'm surprised they haven't announced MS branded ky...

Apart from forza 5 is there actually anything positive about this console?

Any USB drive (USB 3.0 being best I guess).
I think that's a good design choice TBH, easy installation (I know PS3 type wasn't hard for people on OCUK but it wasn't easy for Joe average cause you needed a screwdriver) but no super priced 20gb hard drives like last time.

Once my 500gb is full then ill just grab a nice big usb3 drive.

I thought you needed proprietary for xbone hdd external?

Wow this really is a terrible launch

I still don't believe for a second the 2nd hand market will be worth doing! The rules around it just reduce the savings and add hassle

Forgot to order ps4 last weekend must remember this time!

No, they already said external HDD can be any though USB. Not only that, ANYTHING can be stored on the external HDD, so no forcing game installs on to internal HDD.

does not matter what they said, people will just make up what they want to believe anyway :)

Surely games running from a USB hard drive wouldn't run that well?

500gb is obviously not enough for what they are promoting as a digital future. Certainly in comparison to my 360 which I had to go 250gb on due to dlc, game installs and so on and that's just DVD installs.

Obviously they will increase that space just as quickly as the standard 360 went from 20gb to 250.

Why not? It is usb3 on xbone, which iirc, is pretty much identical to sata3 speeds.

Yeah I suppose thinking about it I've run dlc from a stick. Shame though you can't just rip out the drive and whack a 2tb in from the start. Not that it's a huge issue just cheaper and neater :)

It's controversial what Microsoft have done, like the time they enforced Broadband for Xbox Live in 2002 and when they pushed HD for this generation in 2005. Now they're doing something else and getting grief again. People are predictable.

I can understand why people are upset, but it's ultimately a sound strategy which puts the power back in the hands of the publishers and not in the retailers, and ultimately that's a positive for the games industry!

It might not get off to a great start and the prices will be dear to start off with, but it's to be expected. I feel 18-24 months down the line people will see what the intention was and actually start to see it was a future driven move.
Sony have played it very well, they're living off the controversy and pushing it to drive sales in pre-orders, and that's good, but it's a long generation and they've not really changed anything that we've had for the last decade and people are always saying this is the digital age...

Bundling Kinect is expensive, but now 100% of that target audience own one and the technology in it is actually a lot better now , I'm excited for it! There's talk of some interesting features and interactions, such as making a noise at night attracting the attention of Zombies in Dead Rising 3 etc. Whether this comes to fruition or not, we don't know, but the potential *is* there, and that's a good thing.

What? "Oh no Mr. Microsoft, we don't want no HD games"?
If you remember there was a huge outcry that SD games weren't getting the support many felt they needed because HD TV's were far from the norm in peoples homes (less than 5% of the population in mainstream countries had them) and they were criticised for targeting the minority.
Many believe that Microsoft's deal with Samsung to put HDTV's on Xbox360 display units actually drove the desire for HD TV's forward, it was very much mutually beneficial.

I originally put 'indefinite' but id prefer to change that to PS3 now.

I believe MS have dropped a ball, and the sort of remarks like "if you don't like it, buy a xbox 360", regardless of how tongue in cheek that may be just goes to show how disconnected they are.

"The next generation doesn't start until we say it does" - Sony
"For consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else." - Sony

This was leading up to the PS3, and look how that turned out, so it's ridiculous to write a console off so early (it's not even out for another 5 months!)

Excellent post, squire.
