Exactly what I was going to say, too big = ugly to me, IMO your meant to look athletic and the word I like to use is "Healthy".
I think it's probably harder achieving a Tyler Durden sort of body than a body with huge muscles - I was working out my biceps for only a month and they look massivly out of proportion to the rest of my body so i stopped - its much harder being small + little amounts of fat + showing all muscles.

I very much doubt you trained your biceps for only a month and they looked massivly out of proportion, and no brad pitt is just very skinny in that film and is not hard to get to that size at all, what is hard is getting to 18st+ with 8% bf

If I remember correctly Brad pitt was around 160 lb's in Fight Club with 14" arms. He looked good because he had an extremely low body fat percentage. When combined with excellent makeup and lighting his muscles looked a lot better than they truly were.

Glad to hear it :D I've never found it easy to keep weight on (found out on JohnStone that I'm probably an ectomorph) and that's a manageable goal for me then. I just want to put some good lean muscle mass on and then be able to maintain it for the forseeable future.

I basically want to get built up a bit to the point it doesn't affect my running speed on the pitch. A wide-receiver/tight end body would do me fine :D

Except Penn, who studied under Ralph Gracie beat Hughes.

BJ is hardly the same, he's one of the new breed, much like Hughes. GSP will beat them both anyway im sure.
A couple of the newer Gracie boys aint bad I must admit, but they're not exactly top 10, they've realised at least they can't get by on just BJJ anymore.
As for kung fu, I don't really consider that a proper fighting style; I don't see anyone using it anywhere with any success.

Edit: lets get back on topic.

1. Who the hell is that queer?
2. He wouldn't touch Bruce Lee ;)
3. If you had his build would you grease yourself up in that homo way for pics too?

\o/ :p Blunt comments like this are why Gilly's one of the best Dons... I jsut wish he would let the wealth of anti-Michael Jackson jokes slip through the net...

It depends what style you're reffering to although if you look at something like JKD it's more of a philosophy than an actual combat style. How about people like Dan Inosanto?. As for the whole, "yer he could have bruce lee thing", its all speculation anyway and doesn't count for bub.

I think lighting is also realy important... I look fairly athletic because of the shape of my body/muscles and low body-fat but when standing under a light the effect DOUBLES...

Don't put too much faith in the answers given by members of the "Mens Health" forum mate. I didn't read through the whole thread but that first guy was way off. I don't think Brad pitt was even above 200lb's in Troy, let alone Fight Club. :p

You're absolutely correct about the lighting though. It's extremely important in movies and the lighting engineers obviously know how to use it for maximum effect.

Sorry i meant it is a lot harder to get really big than to gain the physique type that brad pitt had in fight club. Hit the gym for a few months and then go on a very strict diet to cut your bodyfat to 6-7%. Compared to years of training hard and eating right to attain a 'big' physique.

I dont think Brad was 200lb either... I would say that he is thinner than I am or about the same, and we are about the same height and I am more than 20lb off 200lb...

However, there is the possibility that he is very slim indeed (or at least was) and that much of his shape is defined by his muscle which might bring him closer to 200lb. Check my favourite photo of him below... very slim with proportionally very large muscles (bear in mind its harder for slim people to get huge muscles)...

not offended just incorrect and lol @ 200 pounds, wheres the extra 30 or so pounds? :S

Gilly call matt a queer to his face :P hes a good fighter and hes a bit bigger now isnt he?

Now thats the physique I want, sorry for my comment seemed to have offended some folk.

Best way to achieve that physique is to simply diet, diet and diet. Brad Pitt said himself that his diet consisted of nothing but cigarettes and coffee for the role (although he was obviously joking, it's not too far from the truth)

Throw in a few workouts here and there to keep what muscle mass you do have and you'll look like that in no time. He has very little muscle mass in that picture. Definately no more than 160 lb's and 14" arms. It's his very low bodyfat percentage that makes him look so good. Look at his pecs, they are almost non existant and his abs actually protrude out further than his chest!

Here is a pic of him in his next movie "snatch".

This picture gives you a more realistic view of his physique, without the awesome lighting he had in the first picture. He has slightly more bodyfat on him in this picture so his muscles aren't quite as defined.

Also to give you a good comparison here is a picture of me when I was around the same weight/bodyfat percentage.

I was about 160-165 lb's in this picture. It was taken a long time ago, I have a good 30 lb's more lean muscle mass on me now. In my opinion I looked far too skinny back then. It's making me cringe just looking at that pic! :(

But anyway...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with aspiring to have that kind of physique but don't go thinking you need big muscles to look like that because you really don't. It's more down to your diet. A lot of you guys that aspire to look like Tyler Durden are probably a lot closer than you think! :)

id be happy with this..

Disproportionate (but then again, that looks like it was just after a work-out)

Like Bruce Lee said, strength does not neccessarily mean size - would rather be Brad Pitt size and very strong...

Is that Craig from Big Brother 1?

I dont want to take up smoking + having a lot of coffee because its not healthy lol so what else can I do, if I jog 2.5miles every other day should that be enough? I do kind of look like that but a lot less defined.
