Which Vacuum Cleaner?

We have some kind of Dyson cylinder Animal thing. It's great at picking up pet hair sized things with its rotating brush, but utterly cack at picking anything else up. It just seems to biff it across the [wooden] floor, or hold onto it until you lift the head off the carpet. Then just drops it.

You can kinda pick things up if you lift the head over it and plonk it down on top.

Are there any cylinder dysons that aren't awful at picking up things other than pet hair? My parents' upright dyson of sorts doesn't have this problem.

Henry. Bought ours about 15 months ago to replace a cheapo Samsung bagless upright which screamed like a banshee and blurted more dust back out the filters than it picked up.

The Henry is rock solid and experience so far is that one bag lasts @ 6 months doing a 3 bed house once a week. Normal speed copes with most dirt, there's a boost for the odd stubborn glink or heavier piece of grit. I believe you can buy a turbotool for it but we haven't bothered. Cons - about the only one is that it's quite heavy to lug around and there isn't a warning light to say the bag is approaching full. Also you need to find a box to store the tools in.

Overall I would rate it as the best vacuum we've owned to date especially if it keeps going.

Just bought a Henry after being inspired by this thread. Cost me £50 after I used my double up vouchers at the supermarket. Going to try it out now, bit sad but it's the highlight of my day :)

I picked up a Miele S570 cylinder vacuum cleaner at a boot fair on Monday for 5 quid (couldn't really go wrong - seller assured me it worked so thought it was worth a punt). All accessories included. Just tested it out and it's waaaay better than our trusty Henry.

personal experience the Henry we had was useless. We bought an upright SEBO and the only complaint I can think of is it has an auto-cutoff feature that is supposed to sense if something has tangled up in the brush, if you leave it static on our (really) thick rug it shuts off. Other than that it's a great hoover and very happy with it :)

We've got a Henry, it seems fine. It's cheap and there isn't much to go wrong with it, it sucks up stuff from the floor and deposits it in a bag.
