Who else hates this guy (Gregg Wallace)?

i wouldnt say he did nothing wrong............ but i would say that had it of been nipped in the bud early on it would have been no big deal and could have been sorted out without drama.

further more even accepting that that didnt happen, its still been blown out of proportion and its not as big as being made out.

people trying to say its different when men do it than women because men are more threatening.......... well done, gold star for putting equal rights back 30 years......

i do think he was an idiot for his initial response blaming middle aged women, that may ultimately be his downfall.................... but that said i do not think his career should be over for this and i dont think taking programs off air that he is in is remotely proportionate to his crime.

a written warning, an internal dressing down and being sent on a course about what is acceptable in the work place and an apology would seem appropriate to me.

Yet again the the BBC have been shown to be both historically negligent in letting this go on for so long unchecked as well as over the top in their response now imo (unless there is more to come out of course)

Equality doesn't mean treating everyone the same, it means giving everyone the opportunity to succeed by understanding their differences and taking steps to level the playing field. You can't erase the fundamental differences between the sexes and the things that make them feel threatened just by introducing a few rights.

Spit it out and stop typing in code.

Spit what out? I've made it quite clear what the problem is with that image and why it's inaccurate. If it were just his innuendoes, we wouldn't even be posting in this thread right now.

You claimed I knew something.

I don't know what you are talking about. That is why I said to say what you are meaning.

What is it you don't understand from that very clearly written reply?
If it's so clear then tell me what I'm supposed to know? Because I don't know.

So you think the reason he's in the spotlight now is because of some past innuendoes in shows that aired years ago?
The only other incident I've read about is him in a lift and him suddenly talking about a sex act.

It is inappropriate and if I was there I'd have told him that.

Is there other incidents you were thinking of?

It feels like we have moved on from this being described as banter.

Seems like this is a standard workplace dispute which has been blown out of all proportion.

There are numerous allegations against him, which I'm surprised you haven't seen considering you've taken an interest in the story and are using social media for memes about it.

You seem pretty obsessed with this story

Correcting someone because they think the reason Gregg's in the spotlight is because of some innuendo on the show is not me being obsessed. The high post count in this thread is due to the silly back and forth I had with dlockers.

But you definitely seem to have an axe to grind

I've looked around the news after your reply to me because I wondered if there was something I had missed. But apart from telling an inappropriate story in front of multiple women, using sexual innuendo, and maybe standing too close to women that made them feel uncomfortable, I haven't seen anything else.

As I posted previous he's been the victim of child abuse at a young age by a man. Some people who go through that experience go through life with distorted boundaries.

As an anecdotel experience, I remember attending an outdoor event with some friends. We met other people there who we knew on the grapevine. There were rumours about this guy being inappropriate with his daughter ie when his wife died he tried to replace her with his daughter.

Because it was only rumours and we had no direct evidence we didn't feel it our place to start accusing him.

But one of the observations we all noticed individually is when his daughter came upto us to talk. She was standing very close, like we'd do if we was in a relationship.

We all didn't say anything to her. Though after one of the guys who was married said it's a good job his wife wasn't there.

If we had been women and it had been a son standing that close I can imagine it would have made them uncomfortable.

But it was unintentional.

Unless something comes out that suggests he because physical with someone, or stalking etc then this is a story about someone who has weak boundaries.

I've met a lot of people like that in person and online who seem overly familiar with strangers.

There are a number of medical conditions that can cause this situation to happen. I think the story, so far, is tabloids looking for a story. But it might have ramifications for other people.

TBH I think Gregg had it right the first time, although he could have phrased it better. The Elephant in the room there is that he is 100% factually correct (Small number of middleclass women of a certain age), and it would have been very offensive to those he aimed it at (middleclass women hate being called middleclass and more than that, think you should never mention their age).

"Equality doesn't mean treating everyone the same, it means giving everyone the opportunity to succeed by understanding their differences and taking steps to level the playing field."

So why do the BBC, and other organisations, prefer to implement positive discrimination instead then?

This is all very good publicity for the minority groups involved, and the only casualties appear to be common sense and the ability to get things into proportion.
