Who has given up/thinking of,smoking recently ?

Just started a course of champix, second day today but I've not packed in the smokes yet. I've gotta set a quit date for some time in the second week.

For those thinking of quitting that can't do it cold there is a handy device called a quit key that slowly weans you off them

I know a few people that have quit using one, I have one here that I bought second hand and then did not use because I just quit cold.

I gave up then lost my daughter and started again. I can hear here saying Dad stop it. My son is 6 and disabled and now says you going for a fag Dad. Words i never want to hear from my son or anyone that age. Im readying the Alen Carr Easy Way book again. Why, i gave in, i need to do it for my son and my daughter although shes not here.

9 months today for me!

Had a few drags in Mexico the other week as everyone was smoking, it was not nice at all. Tasted like poo!

I feel soo much better for it. Put on a stone though, its on its way back down now. I dont really miss it at all.

That's because it was poo.

Anyway, can't help because I've been smoke free for 53 years (except for all the passive smoking in pubs & clubs over the years) but this thread shows just what an evil and addictive substance nicotine is.
I know people who have been smoke free for 3 decades, something traumatic happens and nicotine addiction sensors suddenly take over again.
Good luck all of you.

And there just seems to be no stopping it

iFAILED

Yesterday marked 12 weeks smoke free and due to events I 'decided' to buy a pack last night.

The thing is that I semi wanted a smoke but as soon as I started thinking about the concept, it went from a weak idea to solidify into concrete and from 11pm last night till 10am this morning I seem to have smoked 14 cigs

I don't have much regret as I can't undo what has been done and it looks like a relapse however the big issue now is that I fancy going for another pack which will be very detrimental.

:/

dont beat yourself up.......pretty much the same as you. Lasted 3 months and then a few things didn't go my way in life and I went back to the way I've always deatl with stress....with a cigarette. I'm back buying packets again now but I will be trying to stop again shortly :)

Thanks Olly for the support.... Yeah I've done 3 months so many times that it's getting silly now

Also I'm not really beating myself up about it as it was just one night, my last smoke was this morning. I will however beat myself up if I go right now and get another pack as that will seal my fate as a smoker again.

I can never smoke the occasional fag - It has to be 10-15 a day or nothing.

Really wish you all the best in getting back to being smoke free :)

How much do you smoke, sir? Two packs a day, is that right? Pussy. I go through two lighters a day. That's right, two lighters! You're a health nut compared to me. You're like the Jack LaLanne of smokers compared to me.

It's day 20 for me and I'm still doing alright.
I don't get cravings anymore, but definitely get urges. I'm certain I'm going to be able to stick with it though.

My dad gave me the simplest and best advice. "Once you quit, quit. Don't even have a single drag."

I posted the above on 21st Mar and am proud to say that I have stuck with it and am now over 3 months smoke free. I still get very rare urges, but they're simple to ignore and go away quickly.
