Who has the best army in the world?

By the way, the British Army has over 4000 armoured personnel carriers, plus 800 warrior fighting vehicles, plus 400 Challenger IIs, the best main battle tank in the world today!
It also has a massive 15,000 or so Land Rovers!

I have to question that vid being sas

Firing the GPMG from the hip?? Thats proper amateur not really something the "elite" sas would do

THe guy has no control over the gpmg what so ever

That lasted days, and was a bit of siege warfare.

You can't expect a headshot everytime surely? It looked like he was getting ready to shift along that wall abit when obviously something he's seen or heard has caused him to fire asap?

If a US Marine or US SEAL or Green Beret was seen doing that he would be called a Rambo and that he is unprofessional and representative of the whole of America

Well who else would you compare us to in order to make a reasoned statement as to whether we are over or underfunded?

The fact is we lack certain essential equipment and spend less than the only other western nation with at least the levels of commitment we have - we are also overstretched in terms of manpower.

We are underfunded and rely heavily on the US as a result have to rent aircraft & equipment from them & rely on them for satellite imagery, air power etc.... Resorting to using land rovers designed for urban use NI is a disgrace given the IED threat tbh...
I can see why we would compare ourselves to the US but I can't agree that we need to match their GDP defence spending otherwise we're underfunding our armed forces. :)

Haven't we just bought a load of new vehicles for this exact purpose?

we've bought some vehicles for this purpose yes - though not enough to replace all snatches - and this is only just happening now

snatches were designed for use in NI ad we've known there have been issues with them since Iraq - several years on we're only just getting some better equipment yet we still had an incident a few days ago where 4 soldiers were killed in one

It is pretty clear we are underfunded and under equipped - when the south armagh batt of the IRA made road travel extremely dangerous in that county the british army mostly relied on helicopters to move troops around - we're covering a much bigger area and are under greater threat but don't have the resources to do that in afghanistan and it is costing lives - instead troops are being moved around in vehicles that are not suitable for the task.

The point is we don't even come close - no we don't have to match it but we could do a damn sight better than we are at the moment. % of GDP isn't my onyl reason for stating we are underfunded - just a clear cut numeric illustration tbh.. - the various areas where we lack equipment - lack of helicopters - insufficient vehicles for the task etc... also highlight where we could do better

tbh.. instead of spending money of silly stuff like the 'euro fighter' they could have reduced the order and spent more on Merlins & Chinooks

well its a legitimate firing position for the minimi - I guess he's just trying to be double hard ;)

On a more sensible point - it is an area weapon tbh... & against a bunch of prisoners a short distance away in an enclosed space it really doesn't matter - he's not exactly firing at a dug in position on a hillside 800m away - he's simply getting rounds down and then getting back into cover.

Given that the coalition lost 1 guy and the taliban lost a few hundred whatever they did certainly worked.

Thats exactly what people complain about the US forces doing, using quantity and not quality.

Its the only thing he could have done with it, you don't fire a gpmg from the shoulder unless your on your belly or have it on a support of some sort.

This is when there are no civilians around to be injured though.

There were reporters there and at one point they were right in the middle of the taleban and the allied forces.

I dont see what civilians being around has anything to do with it. Firing from the hip is either amateurish or its not.

There was a wall right there in front of him that would have offered awesome support for the weapon. If he needed covering fire while he moved than why didnt he ask his teammates who were right near him.

Personally, I dont care how he fires it. I just find it funny how people are defending his way of firing it but would critisize an American soldier for doing the same thing.

I don't think anyone would criticise a a US elite forces soldier for doing that, I certainly wouldn't, as I would beleive that they know more about firing weapons that I do!!
