:D Being fitted this afternoon

They've put the price up £1 since I purchased them :D

I'm going to wear my michelins all the way down to 1.6 before putting them on though. so probably around March /April time when the sun starts showing its pretty face :)

I would advise against that, not because I like to pick on you for no reason but because the tyre manufacturers advise this. Any tyre <3mm has severely reduced water clearing capabilities.

Okay thanks a lot, I'll look into getting them put on as soon as they arrive. I rung a local garage who will fit them for £10 per tyre

Took the acousic valve off today, quite a big difference to the sound! Will replace with a CAF when i get a chance. I heard the stock filter box/ITG panel/CAF is the best setup. What are you guys using?

As much as I think the Hankooks won't be that great, I'd still take them over a set of near legal limit tyres.

They seem to get pretty positive comments from people over on ClioSport.net. Have you had them on your 172/182? What didn't you like about them?

I'm interested because I was thinking of trying them out when my tyres need replacing.

I've removed the CAF going into the airbox, well, I've unplugged it and left it loose, which gives me a nice bit of induction noise for free :)

No idea what filter I have though, I don't actually know how or where to check (I'm still learning about cars and stuff :)).

I've heard that Pipercross do the best filters (The K-Tech one is a rebranded Pipercross, so worth it as well).

My problem with people on forums recommending tyres is that 9/10 times they'll be replacing worn out tyres for new ones. So instead of an honest appraisal of how good they are, you get X tyre is so much better than worn out tyre Y. Of course a new tyre is going to feel better than one with <3mm tread. Gustov will get his Hankooks and then he'll claim they are better than the Michellins without actually having tried the Michellins at their best. I would totally expect this.

I don't trust online reviews of tyres, because most of the time you get completely contradicting and contrasting reviews. One person will say they are great in the dry and crap in the damp and someone else would say the exact opposite. As I said the Hankooks will be decent enough, but I doubt they are the very best.

As far as I know (so might be completely untrue!) is that Hankook and Michelin are in alliance with each other and the V12 are actually made by Michelin to the same spec as the pilot exalto 2's which were specifically made for the 182. Most people who have had both brands have said that the only difference between the 2 is the price.

As said above, not sure if it's true but I was told this by somebody that works in the tyre industry.

Sounds like a load of crap to me. Happy to be proved wrong however.

Having done some searching it does appear that around 2003, Michelin and Hankook formed some sort of partnership. So the above is certainly possible.

From Hankook's website:

An historic moment in the company's history: Hankook Tire concludes a strategic alliance with the Michelin Group, the global market leader in the tire industry. The contract provides for cooperation in production, distribution and sales. Thus, for instance, using its own technology, Hankook Tire is able to produce tires under the Michelin brand name. This
provides the company with an opportunity to prove its competitiveness, high product quality, and first-rate production technology.

It's been known for a long time that Hankook and Michelin have worked together for years thats why I think there might be some truth in what i've been told.

Guess we'll never know though!

theres probably an element of truth in it

I wouldnt be surprised if they were made in the same factory.

I would be surprised if it was exactly the same product in every way bar the price however.More likely the case that they are "similar" rather than identical. Internet heros kidding themselves again methinks.

Joined the motorway today and left it in 2nd gear until 65mph, had the biggest grin on my face :D :D

Also ordered a Chelsea air freshener and tax holder pouch to finish the car off! The blues match perfectly :p Just hope nobody keys it now! My new tyres will be here in a week.

Oh, Jansey I can completely understand what you're saying about comparing the michelins to the Hankooks and it being an unfair comparison.
