Who here owns a Renaultsport?

First gear should only be used to get the car rolling, what's the point of doing hard launches just to teach some spotty kid a lesson in his 1.2 Corsa at the expense of a gearbox/clutch.

Car seems to be 'wheel hopping' when I'm trying to shoot off fast from a standstill. Any way to try and avoid this? I used to be able to pull off on my fiesta 1.2 like a pro :p

Nothing to do with trying to out accelerate people. I accelerate hard when I'm having fun and enjoying my car, I'm not into racing other road users.

I just work the accelerator pedal, pushing the car enough that I'm accelerating quickly, but not too hard that I'm skidding and losing power because of the ESP/traction control.

Then again, I'm not a racing driver, so I have no idea if this is the best method.

Within 10 minutes of picking the car up, I nearly put it in a hedge from flooring it in 1st :p

I'm talking specifically about his point about first gear and the only time you should be in first is when you are setting off from a standstill.

Which is what I am asking about? I was asking how long people keep the car in first before changing in to 2nd. God knows why you always have to address me with attitude : \

What attitude? I don't need to litter my posts with :p:cool::):D;) do I? That post you quoted wasn't even aimed at you!

I was explaining why your car doesn't seem to like first gear and tends to scrabble everywhere when you boot it? It's a typical FWD car trait.

The 182 does this when its damp, cold and wet. Basically most of the time in winter, decent set of rubber and summer time gets rid of this problem 90%! Just have to learn to keep it under control.

Me too usually wait till I see the shift light! :D

I tend to turn the ESP off doing hard launches it kicks in and bogs the revs down. You get much better starts with it off. Well from my own experiances :)

Me, tend to change at 3K RPM in most gears when the engine is cold and driving normally. Going for a spirited drive, I see the shift light then change gear! So around 7K RPM, tis good fun

It's not really a shift light, I think it's more of a stop ragging the **** out of the car light :p

It'll appear in the bottom right of the speedo, it looks like a green gear stick I think.

haha awesome :D To be honest, I didn't notice much of a difference with the TC on/off. But then again it was 2 degrees and I need new tyres!

Yeh, stay well away from dealers when it comes to cambelts!! They often charge double and do a good job of ruining your engine in the process!

Don't know how close it is but give http://www.mickleton.co.uk/ a try. They are Renault Specialists and a guy off ClioSport works there. They seem to have a good reputation.

EDIT: Forgot about RS Tuning in Leeds. Good shout SS!
