Who here owns a Renaultsport?

The cambelt, auxbelt, tensioners, oil, filter and de-phaser pulley was done today - pretty uneventful, other than rounding the corroded torx bolt that plugs the crank pin hole - still managed without the pin though and it's all timed up perfectly :)

It makes me laugh when people say it is a specialist only job, we managed with just one "specialist" tool in the end - it just required a little education and a lot of common sense. It is a difficult job, but it seems most 172/182 owners would have you believe that no one but a specialist or certain Renault workshops can get it right.

I did speak to a Renault tech about it when I bought the parts and he seemed to think the most common thing was people not checking the dephaser pulley was locked before fitting.

Car in bits - headlight had to come out in the end, too.

That'll be why I've been getting a knocking noise then. I thought as much, but had no idea it was that bad. This is the engine mount. **** overnight parts from Japan, SES Southampton put the replacement part on the Redjet and I had it within an hour.

Oh, and braided lines fitted. Whether it is them, the fact I've replaced the fluid or a combination of both, I do not know but the brakes feel miles better even with the EOL discs and pads that are on there - I can't wait to get the new stuff now :)

Yes, I'm aware the CV boot is off, that was sorted too along with finally balancing the wheels :)

Just a little blow in the exhaust and the discs and pads now :)

6/7 seconds is a pretty long time dude, are you sure it wasn't quicker?

To be honest it was quite long ago! As Maccy says probably nearer to 4/5. I didn't want to say 3/4 and have people accuse me of BS'ing :p

Anyone be so kind as to link me to the exact turinis I need to order?

My tyres are 16 Inch spec.

Decided to go for Anthracite

15" rubber is so much cheaper than 16". You'd need coilovers to drop it a bit to adjust though. Can't help really just an opinion!

Just been browsing CS. Has anyone here done the CAT mod? Certianly makes it sound a hell of a lot nicer and cheaper (maybe) than a de-cat.

Mike - still want you to tell me where you got the braided lines from?

I watched my Renault Tech mechanic friend change the cambelt, aux belt and dephaser on mine on Monday and wouldnt fancy doing it myself

They were from a popular auction site. A member on CS.net put me on to the seller, he only had one feedback (from the guy who suggested him) but for the price I decided the risk was worth it. The seller was 'autobitsno1'.

Myself and squirrel have done it , chopping out the silencer on my scorpion exhaust and replacing it with a 2.5" SS tube , makes it louder and a bit more throaty, probably helps that the scorpion only has on silencer for the rear tips , unlike milltek ones that have two.

It cost me £97 for the parts and labour at jabbasport in herts but they did a decent job , but the exhaust now doesnt sit straight and the right tip vibrates against the bumper, so need to adjust the mount rods on the exhaust i reckon to twist it down.

Its a good mod, wont leak (if theres a good seal between the cat and manifold) and makes a nice noise increase without being too loud, give it the beans down a terraced street and it will BOOM off the walls :D

You don't need to adjust the mount rods on the exhaust. Adjust the black metal mounts that the rear exhaust mounts attach on to by pushing them to the side.

Yer I have done that , got a ratchet bit in there at the moment held in with some cable ties but it cant move any further over, so the rods i reckon will need to move as I've reached the limits as to pushing the rubber mount bit over.

had a great drive though today over and around Ashdown Forest in sussex, damn ... as I've moved back home with my parents it does have the upside of having some awesome roads around here :D

Good work Mike. Certainly looks like you know what you're doing :)

As daelo mentioned, I also have had it done. It isn't cheaper than a decat, but it certainly eliminates any leaking around the CAT joins, which I had before. It sounds awesome, and 'should' pass emissions tests (people say it does, but I've not had an MOT since I've had it done).

This is mine, although it's a deeper noise inside the car, and a bit more raspy outside it seems:

It can be a bit noisy on longer journeys if I'm honest, but I don't do many of them so it's not an issue. If you're cruising it's alright, but might be a bit much for some.

I did my first long trip in the 182 a few weeks ago and with a full system with decat, and stripped rear it gets pretty damn loud, but only at 70mph. at 60 or 80 its fine really. Just really drones at 70. Was going to get the stock seats out today to mark up the custom subframes, but breakfast club and mothers day shinanigans took up too much time, so hopefully will get that sorted on tuesday. Wax is still holding up from about a month ago, despite being jetwashed 4 times since. Quick photo from today

I also gave mine a clean today. Having spent 6 hours on it last weekend, it was almost effortless today. A quick foam, rinse, wash, rinse, and some AG EGP for added measure!
